So I bought a new wiper relay from Heritage. And it’s not fitting my van. The old one in the picture is on the right. Also weirdly, I bought the relay as my wipers weren’t working but whilst messing around I noticed my high beam wasn’t working either. Replaced the old relay flicked my high beam and if I keep the stalk pulled up my wipers kick in. Any ideas please I think it’s still a dodgy relay.
Does anyone know where I can get the same relay as the one on the right as well please

I’ve just seen this on JK it says it’s the headlight relay. I am now confused as to what’s up with my wipers

The one on the left not seen before but 53 is related to wipers
The right on is headlights
Indicator is the 3 pin
Have you checked the brown earth wire from wiper motor to body?

yes it all looked good. I will look again on Monday. I’m away from the van at moment. I’ve got the Bentley out. Never played with electrics before. Just trying to get my head around the schematics. Just like a map with a key. 😳😳

So digging in to this. The relay on the right is for lights. The one on the left I bought but is for a later van windscreen wipers and no use to me. The only other relay I have on the fuze box is the indicators one (3 pin). Very confused

Yes no relay on wipers, as said check earth on motor and also is there a feed to wiper switch . Depending on year they piggy back feed connections between switches.

I would certainly associate that relay terminal-configuration with a headlamp dip & flasher relay.

The five-terminal configuration of the British & European specification, headlamp dip & flasher relay for the VW-Audi (VW part No. 411 941 883B), labelled 30, 56, 56a, 56b and S; terminal 30 being in the same position as the locating lug (not an electrical blade-terminal) of the North American specification headlamp dimmer relay.

Refer to the following links for more comprehensive information about headlamp dip or dip & flasher relays, the use of which depends upon which country your VW Type 2 was originally exported to. North American & South African specification vehicles do NOT have the headlamp flasher facility.
