Best to use Proper Media and not Play sand. I've used this and had good results. and not a bad price incl delivery :D

I found the biggest problem with blast media is the delivery cost if you can't collect it yourself. The media is cheap enough on its own. Don't use sand, see here:

Last year I was trying to find a place local to me and found this place in Kent, Techfil. They do recycled crushed glass, I was after the fine grade (0.2-0.5mm) which was £10 per 25kg collection. (I had previously paid just over £7 per bag but with an eye watering £9 per bag delivery)

They are in Aylesford near Maidstone, Kent.
If you search for recycled crushed glass you can probably find someone near'ish to you.

Before this I bought 2 bags of Fine Stonegrit (hodgeclemco: http://www.hodgeclemco.co.uk/products/abrasives/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) from someone on a forum but my blasting pot doesn't like it, its too big (0.5-1.5mm I think) They are still sitting around my workshop if you want to take them in exchange for a beer, I'm near Gatwick.
The recycled glass was great, much easier to sweep up afterwards, it basically looks like sand, far better than the stuff I was buying previously.

Query on your setup. What nozzle / gun you use and what psi you run it at. I was thinking of trying this also thanks

Hi, You can get Blast Media (Aluminium Oxide Powder) in a range of grits from Machine Mart £12 for 7.5kg

thanks gwar will probably order a bag of that cheap enough even with shipping and glass grit gets some good thumbs up. the stuff from machine is expensive about 1.60 per kg and this works out at at less than 60p per kg inc shipping

six set up is easy plastic drum 3/4" hose and i dismantled my pot feed blasting gun from aldi as it was **** took the pot off the bottom and jubileed hose onto the inlet, stuck the other end in the plastic drum to suck up the media, then took the plastic spot shotting shroud from around the nozzle "et voila" as they say in peckham. only thing i am going to chane is to put a metal "pick up2 pipe on the end that goes in the tub so the end always sinks into the media assuring a constant feed.

thanks for the links mags i'm in the midlands so will have a look.

system works well enough that i will get a big plastic box and make a "cabinet" to blast my hubs etc. less stress on you hands than hours with a knotted wheel in a grinder,
