I know it's been asked before and honestly I have read those threads, but now I've been overloaded with information.
I got a retrosounds radio for Christmas and I need to order the speakers tomorrow.
I've decided to put the front ones in the kick panel so I don't have to faff with moisture protection in the doors.
Which speakers do people suggest for sound quality (I know they won't be amazing!). Also I'd prefer if they weren't neon green and somewhat in keeping with the bus.

Thank you

I bought some 3-way Kenwood 5 speakers for the front and Kenwood 6x9's for the back, descent sound for a cheap speaker and pretty much all black so don't stand out 8)

3/4 the way down the page

i got these off ebay

If you want to get the best sound out of them, you want to try and match the speaker power to that of whatever you are powering them with.

If you are powering them by the head unit alone, find out the RMS power output of it, and then try to pick speakers that closely match it. You'll probably find that a lot of the speakers on the market are rated much higher as they are designed to be run off an external amp so won't be best suited to run off the HU alone.

Isn't a rough guide that your speaker should be 1.5 X your channel output? So 50watt output, means a min. 75watt speaker? If only 2 speakers out of a possible 4 are wired, then the output is shared in full. I.e. A 4x50 becomes a 2x100?

Not something I've heard before, I've always tried to closely match power outputs, and where not possible, gone for a higher RMS rated power source than the speakers. Be interested to know more about it though! Agree with the linking of channels, but this is only for amps that have the capability of doing so - not all 4 channel amps for example can be bridged into 2.

Not sure if you're confusing RMS and max power figures as well, as they make a big difference when matching equipment together.

Been a few years since I was into it really, but I'm sure it was a minimum of 1.5x of channel output for speaker rating. However, as you say, I can't remember if it was RMS or max power - poss max power.

Don't most decent headunits switch channel output accordingly? I.e. If just 2 speakers connected then it becomes 2x100 rather than 4x50? Total output always being a max of 200w?

As I say though, been a few years since I was more into it, so could be wrong!

Cheers.

Hmm, not so sure. In my experience, when bridging amp channel outputs, it's not just a case of leaving channel 3 and 4 unplugged, it's a case of connecting the positive from 1 and the negative from 2 etc etc. I'd be surprised if you could bridge a head unit in a similar way and effectively double the output up for each speaker as I'm sure if it has 4 channels they are treated separately - hence why you can normally adjust the levels front / rear and left / right.

Amps / speakers should however be matched by RMS power rather than max power. Most head units will be under 10w per channel hence why they aren't really a good option for powering aftermarket speakers which will almost certainly require a lot more power to get them moving efficiently.

Thanks for the information. I don't quite understand this RMS business so I bought these:
