Hey less of the negative vibes man! Have faith she will pass if you got all the basics done.
I know the test is asking a few more questions now, but nothing too technical!
You can sort it anyhow! Looking forward to seeing it rolling

Finally managed to get the pitman arm off and the steering box out on the bench. Once cleaned up and old oil drained out I had a good look inside. The worm and peg looked exactly as the previous pictures of NOS parts for sale. No wear visiably evident. On turning the worm I was unable to feel or detect any play up/down back or forth so I am happy that the bearings are in good shape. Replaced the oil seal around the shaft, and going to use a little gasket seal to prevent any leaks around the casing before filling up with Penrith Gear Oil i have bought from RoadHouse Motor company which is more viscous. Once all back together and fitted should hopefully bring the steering up to MOT scratch.... and saved a good few quid.

Just thought I would pass this on... might help others and save money.

Cheers

nice one fella ...wish mine was that easy ... :(

If you have a clonk when you first turn steering in either direction, there is a flat worn on the pin like this:

Likely the £100 refurb poster's fixers machined the flat off. I had this peg machined round again. They had t also machine the flange part down and take some height off the top. The adjuster takes up the slack and still plenty of cleaence inside.

Clonk gone, but somehow I doubt it'll last...

The last panzer has my donor steering box, and is on the case. :)

Yep i better get some pics up of the story so far :D

that would be cool fella ..... :D

Just got my box back for the second time ,so fingers crossed :? :?

this time they said they replaced some parts ,as it was a pin inside ....i don't know about that apart from it was worse after the refurb ..

a quick update as to my own steering box refurb....

The first oil seal Ii replaced was slightly too small and turned within the casting, so ordered the next size up from simplybearings.co.uk which fitted perfectly.. 37x25x7 seals were fitted with (i'll let you know exactly the type I got). I have then used gasket seal around the casing joint and am leaving to set before adding the the steering oil. I will leave the steering box off until I am happy there are no leaks.

Should be good to go at the weekend!

Best of luck with your own refurbs

I don't think you have the right sized seals there, the originals are 24-36-7 and 25-36-7

To recon an early box they want yours back and also want £330 which is a lot of money, the rest on their site are for late bays only which are different.
