I'm looking to swap my Dellorto DRLA 40s for a pair of DRLA 36s.

Mine are in excellent condition, nice and clean with no problems. I will of course give them another clean up before we do a deal.
I would expect the ones I receive to be in the same excellent condition.

The reason I want to change mine is so that my engine tuner can perfect the engine, as 40s are slightly overkill for it.

If in the meantime I find a good pair of 36s to buy I will be selling my 40s.

I am only looking for the actual carbs, no linkages, manifolds or filters etc are needed, and I'm looking for a straight swap, with no money involved.

Thanks, Ollie

what CC engine are they going on Ollie? unless it's a 1600 then 40's can be choked with venturis and jet selection?
I may be considering upgrading the 1745 to 1956 [maybe even a shade over the 2litre with thickwall 92's]

what are they jetted for right now?

Hi mate,

They are jetted for my 1776 but the guy who runs the rolling road wants me to try 36s for better low down power... I know you can change chokes but he reckons this is the best way for my engine.

Cheers Ollie

I'm confused? as I was sure that the 40's can 'cross over' with the 36's on a reasonable range - kind of 1700cc upwards? with smaller vents ie 28or 30's and the right size jets....what vent's you running now 30's?

I run 28's on my 36's and I think I may need to jump up to a 30 but further testing will confirm that - [only just started out using the LC-1 cable and laptop for 'real rolling road' testing]

Let me ask my carb advice man in the states if I could run 40's on my 1745

i am running 40`s on my 1600 at the mo with 28 venturies, rolling road visit today and they are running sweet. mind they will be going on a 1776 in the next month or two

I'd stick with 40s on a 1776. 36s might be more appropriate for a 1600/1641, although as mentioned they can both be set up to run on this range of engine capacity.

Ideally for good useable power you'll want venturis somewhere between 28-32mm, on a 1776 it would seem that 28mm venturis will limit the power at higher revs (4000 plus) so depends how you drive it.

I've run dell 40s on a 1600 with 33mm venturis, and they still drive quite nicely, but you can really feel that maximum power is only achieved at higher rpms.

Venturis cost money, but it is worth having a play around. Are you unhappy with the low down power?

Bottom line (from my reading and bit of tinkering) is, use either 36s or 40s, choose a venturi size that will give you power where you want it.

Just one (non-mechanic) guy's thoughts ;)
