OK as some of you are well aware (I haven't hidden the fact) I'm now the owner of 2 EB's, a 1970 Westy Tintop and a 1970 panel.

My dilemma is do I really need both or do I sell the Westy?, I bought the westy as I wanted a complete camper van but as its so original I don't really want to start playing with it and potentially spoiling it but I feel the need to tinker (its in my blood) and to be perfectly honest I'm not sure I can afford to keep both :(

(I'm not unused to spannering and converted my xflow caterham into a Blackbird engineed beast before I sold it on so not afraid of a bit of work although it did take longer than I thought, don't they always)

Back to the topic, do I sell the westy and play with the panel by adding camping interior, propex (blame Faux) full width R + R bed, leisure battery etc etc or am I mad and settle with what I've already got in the westy?

For the techies amongst you the panel has a 1776 with twin carbs etc, front discs off a later bay and personally I think stops and steers better than the westy (obviously is a bit quicker off the mark), the westy has a 1641 with a single and is still on drums and wide 5's, both are on lowered beams with creative adjusters (or similar)

EB guidance required please

put the 1776 in the westy and sell the panel

doesnt make sense to kit the panel out as a camper when u already got a perfect one already, just enjoy playing with the westy, i know im enjoying playing with mine

Hi Graham great to meet you and the boys they are a credit to both you and the Mrs. The ideal situation would be to keep both but I guess I compromise is on the cards. If so keep the best elements of both and sell the other on. My choice would be to big up Hank with the 1776 and some decent brakes, but I think Grazy might disagree! What ever your choice it will be the right one for someone as one of the graet things about this hobby is that its different strokes for different folks!

Vive La Difference!

PS Zile says Hi to you all

panels rule graham. Keep the panel keep all the good stuff and sell the westy at a mark then spend it on making the panel even better than it is now...in my honest opinion westys should stay standard and unspoilt however each to their own and all that..panel.panel.panel Plus when you are camping natural in spain, france or even newquay you`ll get way less hassle being in a panel as you would in a camper..they think it`s just a workhorse and so leave you alone

I think its easy, it all depends how much you camp. If not much I would sell the westy and use the money to make the pannel into a rat beast 8) But personally I wouldnt make it into another camper, just make it into a day-van type thing, dont put a sink etc etc in if you arent going to use it much, all that weight

My clipper im taking the POs home-brew camping interior out and doing somethnig quite original - turning it back into a 'clipper'. Well a custom clipper with one main bench seat with one buddy seat opposide on a checkered floor and propex heater type system, oh and a leisure battery for the stereo and lights but nothing else 8) But this is mainly becuase I have tailored the bus for what I want to use it most for, chugging around and going to shows for a day etc.. If I want to camp there is still an option to take equipment but use the van like a tent, you just dont have all the camping interior to worry about..

Thanks Guys

Part of the dilemma I suppose is I don't really use the Westy interior as intended and the 3/4 bed is a bit small for me and the wife and definitely don't use the sink unit, the idea behind keeping the panel was that I could put in a full width R&R bed so comfier or a bench seat and Daves Z Bed kit when we wanted to camp + a decent stereo etc.

Panel Van + Rock and roll bed + Stereo = Happy Bunny

Westy + For Sale sign = Happy Bunny and Funds to do the above  8)

Grazy

I supposed I shouldn't have expected anything else from yourself

Predictable aint I

It needs a roof rack too G 8)

If I had the choice between the two it would have to be the panel, but then I dont get to camp very often, like cunning plan I removed the home made camper interior out of my deluxe and just have a full width r and r bed, 240 hook up and a drive away awning to put my camping bits in if I do want to spend a night out.
In my opinion theres not enough early panels about. Early bays in their purest form

Keep the panel! We searched for a camper with no camper stuff, we didn't want it and would have felt bad ripping it out when it what some others would die for :? All you need is wide R&R, the rest is just tag on as and when you need it.

As Grazy a loud stereo is a must :p

If you change you mind I'm sure my other half would take your panel off your hands, two EB's is not a dilema we would struggle with

Cheers Phil (is that Phil?)

Panels not going anywhere mate but by the looks of it the westy might be

It's Anna, (phil can only type with one finger, ah bless  ) but the advice still stands

Ratty panel! ratty panel! ratty panel!

Yeah don't forget the roofrack, where else would you put all your mud?!

Look foward to seeing it :D

Good to hear from you Anna, has the wine affected Phils typing or is that normal
