Thermawrap The Heater Pipe?

Just finished cleaning up the underneath of the van and was about to put the jacket back on the Heater Pipe and wondering if anyone had used Thermawrap on this? The plan would be to put that on first then put the jacket over the Thermawrap but I am just wondering if the Thermawrap would trap moisture between it and the Pipe and cause a problem slowing rotting way the Pipe? Anyone tried this to help heat lose out of the Pipe?

I put the aluminized thermal insulation around it in the end. I figured that if I tightened the cable ties enough damp wouldn't penetrate all the way. I painted the heater tube with two coats of hammerite as well.

I suppose exhaust wrap may also work. But I had the bubble wrap already.

That is exactly what I was thinking of doing but also putting the jacket over the top. Did you notice much difference in the amount of heat reaching the cab?

I used exhaust wrap on the stainless pipe between heat exchangers and the heater pipes.
Cheaper than the plastic connections. However the centre tube still has original wrap on :shock:

I think it has made a difference- yes.

The pipe has a large surface area so insulating it makes sense.

Just don't expect to drive in a T shirt in cold weather :mrgreen:

I did this and I think it made a difference, people always bang on about how bad T2s heating is but they usually have leaks or bits missing.
I painted the main heater tube in underseal, I then wrapped it in kooltherm pipe insulation, I also used exhaust wrap close to the heat exchangers, fitted a balanced fan that wasn't missing any fins, checked none of the tin wear was missing and checked seals on flex pipe after heat exchangers.
It blows out hot air and at decent rate now and would work even better if I bothered to close off the walk through floor heat vents.

What do you mean the about closing off the walk through air vents, does they not take the heat off the main Heater?

On my model directly below the walk through you'll see the heat pipe has a small branch coming off it to heat the rear seat or cargo area.
On mine it had a piece of pipe missing so you can add it or block off the pip, I wanted to get it all back as intended but couldn't find the parts.
If you block it off all your heat will go to the front cab area.

Just checked, mine has it too. Could you not find the tubing that branches off as mine has holes in it so will need to replace it.

Yes I knocked up some bodge job but intend to block it off anyway, couldn't find the genuine part.

Just to close this thread off with the outcome, I used thermawrap and then put the cover back over again. Well pleased with the result.

Looks real good, so did you notice a big difference ? I dare say you`ll get more benefit from it as the ambient air temperature drops but everything will be colder then, you may get more heat but it might not feel like it because it`ll be bloody cold soon :shock:

ozziedog, not finished yet so haven't tested it. I am re-insulating all the pipes all the way down the van. I am at the middle section now and am trying to find the pipe that spurs off providing the heat to the back seats. Cant seem to find the right thickness so I am going to use the same stuff that you use in the engine bay and will pack out the difference in thickness with some exhaust wrap in the hope that will do it. I will keep everyone posted if after plugging all the gaps and insulating the whole thing, it makes any difference!

it looks really nice, I would be keen to know if it made any difference, if I'm honest my van is toasty, my main issue is the time it takes the heat to get into the van, I would say its about 10mins, any thing I could do to speed up this would be good

I already tried the card/aluminium and ss flex/fresh air pipes, they didn't do a good job, T.L.E.
I opted for balling up some bubble wrap, sticking it in the branch pipe and gaffer tape :shock:
Sod the people in the back, I'm not popular enough to have passengers that often anyway!, but it blows out of the front with a lot more force........ I like to think its warmer :lol:

Just got to finish wrapping the rest of the pipes in exhaust wrap or thermo wrap still undecided.

Today I insulated some more of the air tubes and tightened up all the fittings to ensure there is no gaps. I then took the van for a spin and I know it was not really cold today, but I felt warm air coming from all the vents even from the vents in the back
