Hey guys, i'm seriously considering taking a trip over to the UK sometime later this year for about a week. I've never been over there so any suggestions are welcomed! I'd like to hit up a show while i'm there and have been considering Vanfest. Is it worth it? Any other shows I should go to instead? Thanks!

A UK trip including Vanfest in one week may be too short of a trip , you need at least 10 to 12 days to do that considering the event is not near London , it is a long train ride away or a long scary drive if it's your first time driving on the wrong side of the road
There are so many things to see and do that you'll regret it if you don't give your self enough time.
Either way , go for it , you will have a blast.

I would love to spend more than a week for sure but I don't know if I can swing it with work. I've been looking into going Tuesday-Tuesday. I looked it up and it's just a little over 2 hrs from london to the show? That doesn't seem too bad. I know it's definitely going to take some getting used to driving on the left hand side though!

I'm coming from North Carolina in the US!

Let us know when you are coming fella and we can meet up at a show or somewhere. 8) vanfest would be a great one but as has been said its miles from London, but if you are having a look around the UK dont forget to go to Cornwall & Devon, very nice english countryside and old world beaches 8)

Cool 8) London to Vanfest will be probably be a liitle more than 2 hours - definately in a bus - our main roads are congested and the rest of them are narrow and bumpy!

Please do it, Im sure you'll love it. When youve done some London, pop to Brighton maybe? Stonehenge and Bath en route can be incorporated and are popular on the tourist trail.

If you post up the dates that your planning on coming over i'm sure that someone will be able to recommend a show for the weekend

vanfest is my fave show, i think it will be longer than 2 hours, im in bury st edmunds, suffolk and weve been stuck in the traffic longer than 2 hours
lots of great places to visit over here though, obviously tons of stuff/history in london, cambridge, bury st edmunds, east side of england
8 hour drive to west side (to devon and corwall, my fave beaches) from east. lots of lovely mountains in wales, and a 8 hour drive from where i am to scotland, depends what youre interested in seeing when you are over.

just bring plenty of cash for gas .it works out at $2.25 a litre at the mo

And if you're coming in September that will probably seem cheap

No kidding , fuel prices are a buzz killer and the exchange rate does not help.
But again , if possible go for it , you will not regret it.

A week certainly is not long if taking in a show, BUT, better a hectic week than not making the trip!
In '89 I spent a week visiting family on Vancouver Island (Cousins wedding) and then a second week with another cousin who was then living in Norwalk near LA. Sure, more time would have been good but that was not to be so we crammed as much in as possible and had an absoulutely brilliant time!
Do it fella, you'll have a ball, just don't underestimate journey times on this little 'ole overcrowded island! :D

By the way, just to make us Brits weep, how much is gas in the States these days?

I can answer that Pete , just came back from the petrol station , it is a whopping $4 dollars a gallon  , this is not funny at all , those days of just driving anywhere for no good reason are over

80c per litre ? Tough times! :D

I imagine you will be flying over and using a hire car so travel times will be more realistic, but remember driving on our little motorways might take some getting used to. Then again hire cars are well known as the fastest car on the road (i can do Harwich in the east to Exeter devon in the west in 4 hours on a good day!!!)

Vanfest will blow your mind, so if your going for the weekend grab a cheap tent/sleeping bag and plenty of beer chuck it in the rental and go for it.

Beer/food etc from supermarkets easily accessible from the motorway (highway)
Tent/sleeping bag etc avilable from camping shops (millets, blacks) or sometimes from supermarkets with the beer.. (tesco, sainsburys)

"Other camping shops and supermarkets also available"

Just do it mate, adventure is the key.
