Hello, I am sorting out my 1600 tp engine as both of the heads had cracked and wouldn't idle or run correctly, I have replaced pistons and cylinders, grinded in cylinders to heads and the new valves too, I got the top end rebuild kit from vw heritage, I have noticed that out of the 8 valves only 2 have Valve Stem Seals, my haynes manual diagram shows them on each valve, how important are these little rubber seals? They aren't inlcuded in my gasket kit, I read that you don't need them as they end up in your oil? Advice please :D

When I rebuilt my engine last week, I forgot to put them in  I didn't remove any when I took the engine apart so didn't bother going back to put them in. I did have new guides and valves tho...

300 miles on and no issues yet...
