Im running a stock 1600 vege at the mo but was thinking about a 1641 remtec for a little bit extra hp gain but a well known reliable
blokey said they run hotter because being bored out more the cyls are thinner = less engine life :|

hows your 1600 running? I ask cos if its ok stick with it the 1641 wont really be noticeable I doubt the thinner wall in this instance will make a huge difference either.....

All these mass production motors have had good and bad press, even when you go for bespoke engine builds you can get a right lemon, pick what you want from your engine then discuss it with the sellers

For the cylinders or the engine?

I believe that if you not in the outback then you will have no problems... 8)

A well set up engine will last you years.... 8)

Rather than get a new engine dude, why not put some twin carbs on? it would be cheaper than a new engine and would give you much more beans than a 1641, always handy for getting up them hills! I run a 1600 Vege with twin 34icts and it pulls well up hills and gives a good 70 on the motorway if you feel inclined 8)

I agree, i would'nt bother getting a 1641 either tbh, fit twin carbs or get a decent set-up 1776cc, 1835cc etc.

hi ive a remtec 1600 sp its got 2 year guarantee with it so thats why ive opted for it , done about 5500 miles since april including 3443 euro trip and i use it every day too without any problems, i am a bit anal about getting it set up right though ie regular checks of mixture and timing and regular oil changing and servicing as per remtec recommends , .......... so for me its remtec , but ive heard excellent reports about the TES shop too as long as you have a guarantee i wouldnt worry too much

regards

I paid £599 for my 1600cc TES motor and it's great, has a small oil leak on a pushrod tube but nothing major. I've fitted twin Weber 40 IDF's, Bosch 009 dizzy and a Bugpack 4 into 1 header with quite pack muffler and it is perfect for my Westy which i use everyday. Pulls up hills strong and pulls 70mph easy but i don't like doing that for too long with a standard ratio gearbox

I've had two TES engines now, a basic silver 1600 in my fastback ( they rebuilt the original unit for me ) and a 1641 in my bus with twin Weber 34 ICTs. Both have been great reliable engines and the 1641 pulls very well with excellent fuel economy. My only minor gripe is that they aren't 100% oil tight but I think better push rod tubes and rocker gaskets would sort that out.
I'd buy from them again.

cheers for that!
I thought maybee the webbers would be the way to go because the last motor i ran had 40 kadrons
and that pulled like a train (thirsty though)!
now the next question is my van has a servo can i use the 34s ? do they have a servo pipe option linking the inlet manifolds or what? :? what about the dizzy i have a vacuum advance one at the mo and runs great,
not that 009 again ran **** with that!

This is also a question i've wondered about and is the main reason i still haven't gone for twins yet :?

You can run a servo on twins ... you have to drill and tap a manifold as I recall.

Earlies dont have servos ;)

Laurrie Pettit is one of the best engine builders around today. He has built more engines than even he can remember.

His prices are very keen & you can have what ever spec you like. He can supply carbs that will be jetted right so you know it will run well.
