There's a tough debate going in in our house....the Westy arrived complete with interior bar the sink unit, as it's a lefty we plan to remove the wardrobe and as such we are probably going to put a whole new interior in....that leaves us with a dilemma

I love the old interior and don't want to part with it....just in case....

My partner is lord of all things garage and shed and says it will take up too much room and has to go... :(

It's the bed unit, the top box and the wardrobe, the table, the laminate needs attention but it's all in one piece...surely value will increase as these become harder and harder to find and is worth saving in case one day we decide to sell and the new owner wants to put the old interior back?

What do you think?

And while we are on interiors any views on seat padding? Replace with horsehair or plump for foam, I had heard foam isn't as good!?

Views welcome.....the debate has been raging for some time

As with all things, it depends.

I've just sold mine for two reasons - I needed the cash to keep the bus on the road. And it really, really was in the way in the garage - it does take up a lot of room.

I had a pang of guilt when I saw it go. Then another pang when the guy who bought it sold it on in bits (which he has every right to, of course, so no beef about that). But then working on the bus without all that around it has been a dream :)

Of course, the van could lose value by not having the original interior - so again it depends if you intend to sell it at some point...

I'd go for horsehair - I did and was pleased with the result. I got mine at a reasonablish price from C&C.

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick

Thanks for your post.....it's a tough decision and knowing Paul (my partner) this won't be our first and last bus we will no doubt sell it on at some point hence my hesitation in selling the interior....though the cash for the resto would be welcome as new interiors and seat coverings aren't cheap!

Did you cover your seats yourself or take it to a specialist? Another dilemma :)

Just taken mine out and it now sits in the shed (taking up valuble space, my thinking is/was to keep it so as to put the bus back to original one day ect, but now im not so sure i'll ever bother as the point of taking it out in the first place was to was to improve on the cramped layout.........I will probably end up selling

I went to a local trimmer in Ipswich who was brilliant - based on seeing their previous work. And they have got quite a bit of business from the VW community since :)

Have a look at my thread on the gallery... http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21724" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I think your van will appeal to more people (when the time comes to sell) with the original interior as an option, but they are hefty items to store.

Well if it has the original laminate floor and you decide to sell can I have first dibs on the floor ?

Pete

Hi Pete

I like your style

We do have the floor as it happens complete with laminate, it's in one piece but not in the greatest of condition (ply has split a bit), its complete with sink holes etc!

Think this will be the first thing to go.....first dibs is yours! PM me with your details and I'll send a pic and you can make us an offer.......

Pete I will send you pics then we can talk price.....sensibly.....

Surely it will only increase in value as time passes......harder to source....etc etc

Trouble is that as time goes on and tastes change the whole bus thing will one day not be so popular.......so prices of parts are only high whilst demand is high. Still, can't see me selling my bus :D

If you love in weary interior so much why change it to start with?

I've been through this whole dilemma myself.. Keep it, take it out, etc etc... The interior of the bus is very cramped, especially now our second baby has arrived...

I eventually settled on leaving the interior in situ (the value argument was the key), but this has ultimately led to me selling my bus to get a microbus that I can really do whatever I want to....

Not an easy call as I spent hours and £'s getting my bus sorted, but, and this is the key, it's got to work for me, and the Westy just doesn't so, it gotta go... And someones gonna get a sorted bus to boot!

Thanks all....still no decision, not sure of its value if split vs sold as a whole or vs keeping to possibly pass onto a new owner when the time comes...

We like the old westy interior but it doesn't work for us as it is- the wardbribe had to go....but someone might like the original in the future

Plan is to get some nifty gadgets in there to make life in the camper easier...driving too...the debate rages...
