iv looked on various sites and the prices vary a fair bit plus the pics look different
i want a clutch kit for my 70 bay window
i have a 1500 sp to go in but would like to put either a 1600 tp in later or a mild 1776
so can someone link me to a clutch that will fit, its definitely a early gearbox too cheers

Is it a 71 model year like your profile says or a 70 MY as stated in your post? It makes a difference as that was the crossover point (assuming you still have the original gearbox!)

Hey dude nope its a 70 model ond and its not the original box but it is an early bay one cheers

There are 2 types of early bay ones, one with a sleeve and one without, that determines which clutch you need. Any idea which one yours is?

Later 71> has the sleeve so is the non pad type. Early is sleeveless so has a pad. If you aren't sure it's best to check first as either type could be fitted if it's been changed.

Im not sure what u mean by a sleeve as i dont have the old clutch, i know the gearbox arould the spline has a chrome sleeve type thing bolted around the spline? And an old beetle box i have doesn't have that?

That's the fella, in which case you have the later style box and as a bonus it means a cheaper clutch :)

Here's a link to an edited version of the Bug Me Video which is by far the best description of all possible clutch and throw-out bearing combinations for type 1 engines of all sizes. Unfortunately the video is just a teaser and most of the explanation of different clutches was left out, but maybe you can get what you need here. Skip ahead to minute 2:40 and he will explain which clutch matches which throw-out bearing and transmission. The bearing with the sleeve is bolted to the transmission through those three holes. If you don't have a transmission with the triangular mount around the shaft then you need the other bearing and clutch plate of the correct size to fit your 1600.

The full length videos from Bug Me are excellent ... not sure if available in UK.
