OK, our 1970 early bay restoration is nearly finished. So, what parts should I carry in the event of a breakdown? Just want to get a list of bits I need to order so we have it in time for our drive from Morecome to the Cotswold in 2 weeks time. Then depending on the weather, we are off to Essex and back the week we pick it up so I want to make sure I buy all the tools and spare parts now.

Also, I want to attempt the servicing myself  . Is there a list of parts I need to buy (1600cc with twin carbs) and any recommendations on where to order them from?

Maybe this -

Many thanks for the help.

What you carry with you depends largely on what you are capable of / prepared to do in the event of a breakdown I guess.

I personally don't carry anything other than basics nowadays, points, fan belt accelerator cable and a clutch cable. they have all been in there for about ten years untouched lol

Oh, and a few bits of wire and connectors for any electrical emergencies that may arise :)

As for servicing, that jk kit would be ok apart from the oil. At the risk of starting a long and tedious debate, I would strongly recommend not using a monograde. ;)

Thanks for the replies, I guess this sums it up

What you carry with you depends largely on what you are capable of

We.....well, maybe not so much the wife.....I fancy having a go at servicing it myself as although I have not touched a car engine for over 20 years (we buy Toyota....very reliable apart from the accelerators!), I used to service my Renault 5 Turbo. I was going to ask what oil we should use for the first oil change on the recon engine but reading some of the previous posts on here about oil, I will not go there :?
