hi, ive got a 1970 vw t2a (the one in the avatar on the left :p ) and could do with finding out what the color is. ive had look at the paint code on the plate behind the drivers seat which states "030" i had a look online and from what i can make out 030 is the paint code for when the van was shipped out from the factory in primer ???. i thought it could be niagra blue, but apparently this color wasnt used until 1971, its definatly the original color as its the same color underneath and inside the van. any suggestions ???.
i'll try and put a photo of the van on with this post, if i can.
take it easy folks. si

Hello there.

On 1970 - 79 vans the paint codes are the 1st 4 numbers in the set of 6 digits on the next to bottom line, are you sure it's 030?

Mine's slightly different as it's a '68-69 bus, but the code is 4141(L345 Light Grey upper and lower body), as the M plate below. :)

Now you didn't say it wasn't a European bus, did you. :lol:

VW South Africa had their own production plates and colours.

Nice bus though. :D

hi, yeh cheers. just like me to leave out vital info :lol: :oops: . is there any websites that i could get any info on african built buses.

You could try here http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like there is a lot going on on there from a quick browse :msn4:

edit; just read this on their forum :?

There is a paint code on the VIN plate, but no one has ever decoded them (it's probably about time we started). VWSA destroyed all archival records, so they are no help at all with historical or restoration info. Your best bet would be to find a patch of unweathered original paint on the car and have it matched; likewise the upholstery.
