Slowly putting together all the parts needed for my project engine 1776cc, and one of the biggies is carbs, looking at del drla's and weber idf's

2 questions really which of the two are the best, tuning set up, performance etc
And also with the 1776cc whats the ideal size to look for, 36's or 40's ??

Oh and if anyone's got some there thinking of selling :msn4:

I have a pair of 40 idf's in the garage, which i sourced for my build, but ended up buying a turnkey 1776 with 44 idf's on already.
I'm looking for £290 delivered.
They're really clean and look almost new, not sure of jetting.
DO NOT come with manifolds or linkage.
I was led to believe they would be perfect for a mild 1776 but mine has had extensive head porting work and polishing.
Drop us a line if you're intrested. Regards Bob

Cheers bob will keep you in mind  8)

Well I got standard valves with a bit of work to the ports nothing major and run 40s, after a year we re-jetted with larger mains as I had a bloody bit flat-spot right where the torque kicks, all good now tho. So bigger valves = bigger carb I'd say.

Gunna see what these heads are like when I strip the engine hopefully no cracks etc keep it standard valves and do some port and polishing to them every little helps

Cool. If its any help I have 36 DRLA's with 30 chokes, 53 idles, 122 mains and 180 airs on my 1641 and it goes like stink and I use it almost daily in town and on the motorway.
I'm upgrading to a mild 1776 soon and am reliably informed by Matt at eurocarb this combination will work fine on the 1776 with the exception of maybe upping the idles to 58's. Just FYI ;)

Heres a thread i started when looking for carbs

Dels are no longer made i believe and i had trouble sourcing a recon set. Del's are easier to set up but the webers produce more power, by all accunts.

I boght my webers from matt at euro carb and thry came jetted correctly. My engine fired up straight away and runs perfectly. Only needed balancing.

Give eurocarbs a call is the best advice i can give.

Webers & Dell'orto's take the same effort to set-up. Webers produce more power but Dell's are smoother because they have a more sophisticated progression circuit.

Cheers for the info  I'm only going for a mild 1776 myself

Cheers j

I've heard nothing but good regarding euro carb so I might be investing one of their kits :D

Let's see how far I can stretch the camper pot

Talking about setup, a CSP bell crank linkage will seriously improve your life Fit, adjust, forget. I haven't had to mess with mine since fitting it 3 years ago. Well worth the money ;)
Oh, and get yourself a synchro meter airflow meter. Pricey but makes setup a diddle ;)
Damn spellchecker....I meant doddle! What on earth is a diddle
