Yeah as Daz says we can all drive the "NORMAL "car but they suck dont they , I went to a Hot Rod sshow at the weekend lots of Chevys Dodges etc , And hotted up cortinas and chevettes not my kinda thing but you have to appreciate the money and work involved and its each to their own . we only live once so fook em

I get it all of the time, by a bloke witha ford focus, and a 4 year old pug that has failed its 1st mot, and whos CD player doesnt work, I tend not reply to any coments he makes about my van, or about my TT.

but just been told this morning that the van will never be on the road again by someone who doesn't get it.

I got told that about my van by lots of VW owners ;)

Most people with old VW's have another car aswell.

Each to their own, I am not about to buy a new car, they are expensive & impossible to fix at home without a lap top.

Here's a nice story from a few years ago:

Me & my mate were out cruzing in his bug when we pull up to the lights. One of his mates pulls up along side in his Saxo. He shouts over, "Hey, You still driving that piece of crap then?" We just look & laugh.

The lights go green, 1.0l saxo takes off, 1641 bug with 40's bug, lets all hell break loose, shift light blazing, quick shift shifting, Saxo is nothing but dust!

Who wants a normal car. Nothing changes either.

I picked up the girlfriends Oval last night for MOT today. Some lad was in a Tigra giving it the large, I was off the clock on the duel carriageway. He didn't get past. He was a little embarrassed in front of the other car drivers he was just showing off to.

Guess what, Hers has the engine out of the above mates car. It still goes well!

another question?

was it the association with surfing that made the bus cool? :?

I prefer it to be associated with surfing than hippys and flower power as most 'old' dubs are :x

Well i'm too fat to be a surfer and oh yeah too fat to be a hippy. Howevere i do see the cool element involved with both.

Heres a point to consider what other car in the world allows you to be in the wolrds largest free breakdown recovery service just by age of the vehicle and the vw badge on the front.

By this i mean i have stopped loads of times on roads and motorways to help a bug or a bus and even a 356 once, i have also had the same done for mean on more than one time, just for the love of the vehicle and great friendships involved with owning these beauties.

if you've got to explain it to them then they wont get it anyway
its a way of life thing with an old veedub, only really been involved in the 'scene' for a few yrs now and been to different shows and events and it dont seem to matter a crock whether its shiny, ratty, concours,or a plain old daily driver,if you get it ,it makes you smile
Had golf gti's,2 T4's and a T5 and gone back to aT4,had beetles and now got Eric the pickup(and he's staying) and only because the veedub 'thing' just has a buzz and gives likeminded peeps the chance to get together and talk b*****ks,and enjoy what is
So to any one that says 'buy a proper car' dont bother to justify their narrow minded approach cos you know that you know why and thats IT :D :D :D

Screw everyone who doesn't like your ride!

I sell new cars, drive zero milage cars everyday and they suck!
how gutted am i i didn't buy a brand new mondeo rather than buying and restoring a bus!?

I ditch the company renault on the drive at the weekend in favour of my aircooled rides.

Live your life to please you!
