Windscreen covers

Hi folks,

I’m toying with the idea of buying a windscreen cover to use when camping, as it is a faff to draw our internal curtains and have to use a variety of magnets to avoid massive gaps

I’ve taken a look at a few places selling them, but it’s not clear if different manufacturers are using different methods to hold them in place once installed; namely around the front doors / wing mirrors. Do all of them slip over the doors and then closing the doors holds it in place? I’d be interested in seeing what people are using and how they find them, as the prices vary considerably.

Ha,, I’ve got a screen cover from Rainbow and it was custom made for me because of my slightly different trucker style mirrors. I went for the fully insulated one. Fits perfectly and just hooks over both front doors. Keeps it all pitch black up front and cosy too. Only downside to it is if it’s rain soaked when you pack up , it’ll take more than a morning to dry it out and to roll it up so it’ll end up packed while wet. Not the end of the world I know. I have the front cover and one for the rear tailgate window too plus one for wrapping around my late Devon pop top. Mine is nicely decorated with a piccy of a pair of flip flops on the front and the rear covers. If it looks like peeing down, then I don’t use them and hang a flag behind the cab and my internal cushion/ curtain malarkey sorts the rest

My front curtain is secured to the inside with press studs (or snap fasteners) about 14 iirc. When I bought the van it came with the made up front curtain but no means of attaching it. I removed the plastic curtain rail on the cab door frames. There wasn’t anything over the wind screen. I had to drill out the rivets on the door frames fitted for the rails, then fit the male side of the fastener with a self tapper. The female side went on the curtain. It takes about 2 minutes to put the curtain up, and we keep it in the back locker in the day.
Personally I prefer this arrangement as if it is wet outside it doesn’t matter whereas as said above the outside screen cover will be wet. The only update I’ve made is to add two small magnets to each rear edge of the curtain, by the door frame as this gives more privacy. They are from eBay about the size of a five pence piece, and sealed in a plastic coat which allows stitching on to the curtain edge.
Just in case you decide against the outer screen cover I thought I’d mention this.

When I first went camping in mine I didn't remember to put my screen cover on until I'd got back from camp-fire beers at midnight! As you can imagine this is tricky in the pitch black! Anyway woke up the next morning fairly early as it was very light in the van. Went out to see what had happened to the windscreen cover and it was only hooked round one door. This goes to show that you don't really need them as long as you don't mind waking early and everyone being able to see you in bed!
