Solid, reliable, stock 70 Westfalia tin top. £10,500 firm

1970 Westfalia imported 9 years ago from Oakland, California. It is extremely solid but has had welding to the cab floors and the rear arches. It was originally white but has been painted blue in the states. It has a nice Westfalia interior which I have recovered in original style vinyl since...

    Replacing fuel pump.

So, I noticed my oil level went up and I'm sure it smells of petrol and I suspect the diagphram in the fuel pump has gone. It's a cheap repro pump and I've heard they don't deal with the E10 ethanol in petrol very well. I've bought one of the new (old style, serviceable) pumps from VW heritage...

Dimensions for westy buddy seat back rest.

Hi folks, I'm in the process of restoring the interior of my latest bus, a 1970 westy tin top. Gradually getting the various parts of the jigsaw puzzle but I am missing the backrest on the buddy seat. This is the shorter one (earlier one?) that sits flush with the formica covered cubby hole...

    Leaking gearbox/cv joint>

My bus has decided to dump all it's gearbox oil. It's coming from the area of the cv joint. Is there an oil seal as part of the cv joint (drive flange oil seal?) and if so, is it worth just replacing this or would it be better to replace the entire cv joint? Thanks, Jeremy

    Off the shelf engines?

I'm looking at options for new engines and I wondered if anyone has direct experience of any of these (not here say from a mate of a mate or a link to vzi ranting from several years ago). 1) New VeeWee (formerly GSF) 1600tp, £1950, no exchange. Their old 'mexican' engines were very good units I...

Jan' 68 Devon Caravette. RHD -Sale Pendind

Due to mechanical problems which I don't have the time, money or patience to fix and having thought long and hard about this I have decided to sell my Devon which I have owned for the last 11 years. It is a very early (jan' 68) model which has been extensively restored since I've had it. This...

    Recommend load rated 185/70/14s?

I'm running 185/70/14s on the front of my bus. The size is great with no rubbing etc but they flex a lot and need really high pressures to remain rigid (45psi plus). Also little cracks are appearing in the side walls. Could anyone recommend a suitable tyre in this size with a suitable commercial...

    Butt ugly but worth saving.

New front panel and rear light clusters and this looks like it could be a nice crewie. Bit sad looking at the moment though :( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970s-Volkswagon-Crew-Cab-Unfinished-Project-Barn-Find-/281218843714?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4179f30442"...

    accuspark 009 conundrum?

Just bought an accuspark unit for my 009 dissy and have encountered 2 problems fitting it. The first I sorted i.e. where the leads exit there's a round hole and the rubber bung in the accuspark unit is square. Luckily the rubber is very soft and I managed to squeeze it in anyway. The second...

    Petrol in oil.

I've just removed my new fuel pump which has failed already twice in approximately 300 miles (mechanichal) to replace with an electronic pump and there is a big puddle of oil under the van which looks like it's come from the push rod tubes and rocker gaskets. These weren't leaking before and...

    Electronic fuel pump

Soooo, my bus has had it's nice reliable original fuel pump for 44 years until the diaphragm split recently, letting petrol into the oil. It's been replaced with a new pump which has caused no end of problems therefore my conclusion is to upgrade to an electronic pump. I'm looking for...

    Ferry- Car,van or motorhome?

So we're planning on taking the bus over to Brittany from Portsmouth in August and wondering what to book it in as, having noticed the crossing is considerably cheaper for a car. It's a mildly lowered tin top (4"?) and we may have a westy rack on it for our camping clutter. What do you regular...
