Soooo, my bus has had it's nice reliable original fuel pump for 44 years until the diaphragm split recently, letting petrol into the oil. It's been replaced with a new pump which has caused no end of problems therefore my conclusion is to upgrade to an electronic pump.

I'm looking for recommendations for a pump and also do I need to fit a regulator to adjust the pressure (I'm running twin 34 ICTs on a 1641) and what would be the appropriate pressure for these carbs?

In my quest for reliability I'm also considering electronic ignition (2 condensors have failed in less than a year). Any opinions on Petronix versus Accuspark welcome ( Accuspark is way cheaper) and is it worth upgrading the coil to a flamethrower or something similiar?

Thanks in advance :D .

I cant really give any advice on the fuel pump :( but can on the electronic ignition Ive got a Accuspark module in my old 009
Dizzy which I now keep for a spare, I now been using for about a year now a Accuspark svda dizzy with my old stock coil with excellent results, so IMO don't waste your money on the petronix kit as you can achieve the same results with a cheaper kit. :D

i run cb rotary has in built reg and isnt too noisy.

Hi I did this last year. I'm running IDF40s so used this Huco pump, its the same for the ICTs http://www.dellorto.com/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=HUCO%20PUMP%20FP03&CategoryID=8&PartsectionID=18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's mounted above the gearbox and I devised some relays to power it.

The relay allows the pump to prime the carbs when the engine turns over by taking a supply from the starting motor, then when the starter stops the supply switches to the alternator, meaning if the engine stalls and the igniter is on the pump won't run, this is important as if you have an accident you could pump the contents of the fuel tank over a hot engine :shock: also if the alt stops lets say cause the fan belt breaks then the fuel pump stops too 8)

As for the electronic ignition, I got a cheap eBay one about 5yrs ago and it's still going strong

Worth noting the pump needs a 8mm pipe whereas the standard carb and fuel tank take-off needs 6mm, luckily the inline fuel filters take both so by using 2 filters one before and one after the pump you can use both sizes without extra joints 8)

Cheers folks, the consensus, having scoured the internet seems to be that 34 ICTs need 3-3.5 psi. Does that sound about right? If so the CB rotary pump should be suitable as it's regulated to 3.5.

hello
i will second whats been said about accuspark , had mine for a year now with no problems
as for the carbs ive been told to run them at 2.5 psi using a regulator
norm :D

This is of interest re webers and fuel pressure http://www.racetep.com/webfuelspark.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Get a huco pump - my cb one didnt last very long!

Here ya go

Mine starts better now with this pump and its quieter than the CB one
If you've got Dells I'd use this.

Jeremy here is a cheap block off to get you started.

I'd be very happy to soldier on with my original pump as well Simon, if only I could find a kit to refurbish it as the diaphragm is split. Also the new pushrods seem to be made out of really soft metal.

Might stick with mechanical and a regulator. VW Heritage are doing these now http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Fuel-Pump-T1-T2-1-2-1-6-For-Dynamo-Rod-Best-Quality-113127025D_act_shop.product_pID_123425441_lang_EN_country_GB.htm(made" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in Europe). Hopefully they are og quality. Anyone fitted one?

If the pump rod is wearing quickly then get a replacement turned by a local engineering shop. Silver steel or case harden the tips. Should last a long time.

I got a decent price on the Huco pump from Matt at euro carbs.

Does anyone know if this pump will flow fuel when unpowered ?

Well I've fitted a Facet pump and a regulator set at 2.5 with an accuspark electronic ignition kit and all is well, been for a drive without breaking down and everything :D .
