15" Wheel question

The colour is pearl White. But against White bumpers and badge it looks more like cream

I've just renewed my tyres to 185R14C, which i believe are standard. Why is it then my spare now won't sit right in the spare wheel well, the tyre is wider than what was on before. It stands about 50mm from the bottom. Not a major problem but would be interested to know why?
