What would a 1776cc engine with engle 100 cam and 32/36 weber red line at ?
and what kind of RPM would be safe for prolonged driving.I currently do around 3500-4000 RPM.
But i had a bit of a blast in her the other night and went to just over 5000 RPM,still felt like it would go and go so hence the question when should i stop, don`t want to blow the engine.

Cheers Phil.

I would think the major limiting factor is whether the crank and connected items have been balanced, iirc the 4500 rpm limit on a stock engine is based on the fact that the crank did not have counter balancing weights & therefore could start to flex under higher rpms. Have you still got the original crank fitted or have you fitted a counterweighted one?

Yes original spec crank with lightened fly wheel. No other engine mods.So with this do you think standard rev spec applies.

You will probably get away with just over 5,000rpm without breaking the crank. The cam will run out & the heads might struggle to flow much over that anyway.

I would treat it a bit carefully if it's stock inside, the show season is here, not engine building season!

Ok thanks, will stay with my 3500-4000rpm for longevety of the motor and ease on my pocket, especially as we`re driving down to St Ives this summer.

Phil.
