next day:

I took the bus to Vlad's bodyshop again. Unfortunately, halfway, it started to rain.
Next I was going to take the bus and all parts to the north of Portugal (300 Km's from vlad's bodyshop) where I've got a bigger house with a larger garage and where we're going to rebuild the interior and also where I could restore the fiberglass from the poptop....
Meanwhile, some pictures of the assembly, again ...

IMG_3651.jpg

IMG_3652.jpg

I used a piece of rubber under the lock...

IMG_3653.jpg

IMG_3654.jpg

IMG_3655.jpg

IMG_3656.jpg

IMG_3657.jpg

next day, I managed to mout the rear one:

IMG_3814.jpg

and then put my stuff into it and disappeared for a weekend

IMG_3816.jpg

IMG_3817.jpg

finally on the road ... even if incomplete!

meanwhile I received a package (but one botle was damaged  )

IMG_4323.jpg

it had lost half of the content

IMG_4326.jpg

IMG_4326_rodada.jpg

and

IMG_4325.jpg

to use where? In here....

IMG_4329.jpg

IMG_4330.jpg

IMG_4331.jpg

... and here.

IMG_3482.jpg

IMG_3483.jpg

and yes... I should have done this first

As planned, on a Saturday morning (21 Jully 2007) I took the van to Viseu, a city in the north/interior of Portugal.
I filled it with everything I had to take and almost with no more space for anything else, I put myself on the way.
However my battery was so weak, old and worn that it no longer accepted being recharged therefore, whenever I needed to stop, I couldn't turn it off

IMG_4387.jpg

IMG_4389.jpg

IMG_4391.jpg

Half way I heard some shots coming from the rear axle.
This was not the first time that happened.
So I stoped near this beautifull Buick to try and find out where the shots were coming from...

IMG_4392.jpg

IMG_4394.jpg

... but the noise of hammer blows or shots was becoming increasingly violent and a few km's later, I had to stop again and ask for a friends help who lives in the next town (Leiria) ...
Here he is with his latebay:

IMG_4395.jpg

IMG_4396.jpg

IMG_4414.jpg

(I love this detail  )

IMG_4400.jpg

With him I phoned a well known Portuguese vw's shop, just a few km's down the road and I went there to see if they could solve my problem.

IMG_4415.jpg

IMG_4416.jpg

IMG_4418.jpg

... and they managed to find my trouble maker...

IMG_4420.jpg

While they were fixing it I realized that I had a lot to clean and fix under the bus

IMG_4422.jpg

IMG_4423.jpg

IMG_4424.jpg

a couple of hours later, I was back on the road....
I then realized that my 1600 cc's motor had seen better days....
40/50 km/h .... and leaving a long queue of traffic behind me .... Even putting myself on the roadside to let them pass

IMG_4425.jpg

IMG_4427.jpg

finally at 9.00 pm I arrived to my first destination... about 40 km from my final destination

IMG_4428.jpg

IMG_4429.jpg

Thanks gninnam...

so here are a few more

Next day, Sunday morning, and with the help of jumper cables, I finally managed to turn it on again and I left Casa da Câmara in the way to the next town.

IMG_4440.jpg

IMG_4442.jpg

Since I had to return to Lisbon that same day I went to buy a bus ticket.
I had to leave her in the middle of the street with the engine on and asked some taxi drivers to keep an eye on it.

IMG_4452.jpg

finally, a little later, I reached my final destination.

IMG_4453.jpg

IMG_4454.jpg

... and with my father's help, we started to remove everything from inside the bus.

IMG_4455.jpg

IMG_4457.jpg

some parts I bought over time....
for sale in a shop that was going to close for works - 30€

IMG_4458.jpg

and these ones for 18€

IMG_4459.jpg

IMG_4460.jpg

IMG_4461.jpg

IMG_4462.jpg

Good enough for me.
And the fridge from Ebay.co.uk...

IMG_4463.jpg

....and slowly, the bus was getting empty...

IMG_4464.jpg

The original poptop canvas: double-sided, completely waterproof and when stretched, formed an air pocket in the middle of the two sides ... functioned as insulation

IMG_4467.jpg

IMG_4468.jpg

and the cabin seats, compared with the midle one, almost never used...

IMG_4475.jpg

... and some "tools" that were always at hand

IMG_4476.jpg

and the interior layout ...

IMG_4484.jpg

and my chemical toilet on the original position....

IMG_4485.jpg

IMG_4491.jpg

IMG_4492.jpg

IMG_4493.jpg

... and my cabinet in the original position...

IMG_4494.jpg

IMG_4495.jpg

and at the end of the day, someone driving me back to Lisbon (340 km's)

IMG_4507.jpg

a few weeks later, I returned to Viseu and this time, to do something concrete in the bus...

IMG_4526.jpg

and the lower/rear corners I had to clean and protect

IMG_4529.jpg

IMG_4530.jpg

but to reach them in a better way I began disassembling the bus again:

IMG_4531.jpg

IMG_4533.jpg

My motor really needs to be fixed...

IMG_4534.jpg

and after a lot of cleanning it was looking better...

IMG_4535.jpg

IMG_4536.jpg

IMG_4538.jpg

... and always wearing a breathing mask

IMG_4540.jpg

Seriously cool pics! i love Portugal my uncle lives in Monchique

to rest a litle from the cleaning work on the bus, I changed my line of work:

IMG_4549.jpg

IMG_4550.jpg

IMG_4551.jpg

IMG_4552.jpg

IMG_4553.jpg

... a little later, I decided to apply metal-ready and por-15 in the area that worried me most:

IMG_4554.jpg

IMG_4555.jpg

IMG_4557.jpg

IMG_4558.jpg

IMG_4559.jpg

IMG_4560.jpg

IMG_4562.jpg

IMG_4567.jpg

IMG_4568.jpg

IMG_4569.jpg

... and as I had already started cleaning up, I was not going to stop. I had to clean all this...

IMG_4570.jpg

and also here,

IMG_4571.jpg

and in here,

IMG_4572.jpg

etc, etc....

the luggage part already sanded....

IMG_4573.jpg

IMG_4574.jpg

.... and gradually, the bus started being dismantled again:

IMG_4576.jpg

I thenn began cleaning my engine bay....

IMG_4581.jpg

IMG_4584.jpg

IMG_4586.jpg

IMG_4589.jpg

IMG_4590.jpg

.. but my engine was in the way, so guess what??

IMG_4591.jpg

IMG_4593.jpg

IMG_4594.jpg

IMG_4595.jpg

IMG_4596.jpg

IMG_4597.jpg

IMG_4598.jpg

IMG_4600.jpg

IMG_4601.jpg

IMG_4602.jpg

first I needed to remove all my gas from the tank....

IMG_4604.jpg

IMG_4605.jpg

IMG_4606.jpg

IMG_4607.jpg

IMG_4610.jpg

... and with some help, we took the engine out:
