That's a possibility.

I did choose a cheaper option: buy good used spindles, cut them to pieces, put some metal in between and weld everything back together. So my dropped spindles cost me something in the region of 100 euro's.
I was going to fit them this weekend, but as you've noticed, shit happened. So the home-made dropped spindles will have to wait for now. Maybe I'll just fit them to see how things look.

Well, guess I have to if I don't want to spend the money.

Maybe that's why I should wait to do the complete restauration of my bus, first test the spindles and if they hold I can start thinking about restoring the bus.

Little pic of my van on the M40 going to avon park this week-end... Lovely cruise, 55mph all the time, about 20mpg, still need to fit that 6 rib gearbox..

I have fitted my microbed hinges though, and that made a really comfy bed for the week-end!

Roland,

your bus rocks.
Nice job and how are the brakes? Nice and good I guess.

BTW do you have a spare left front 69 door?

thx guys...

Brakes are real nice, next step would be to fit a brake servo to make it even better...

I know I have a few doors, need to check if there's an early one..

So the bus was low but the ride was not fully awesome, as one might say..

I ordered dropped spindles from oldspeed in cali a couple of months ago, just fitted them..

Removed the wheel, jacked it up

removed the braking stuff

Braking stuff back in:

Those spindles narrow the track about 1 cm which is not much but what I wanted..

Bus after:

The bottom of the front wheel arch is now at 56cm, was 57 before the spindles, but with the adjusters all the way down.. Got to tune it to be 55cm, would be great... and now plenty of suspension travel and a tiny bit more tuck..

Also since i'm going to SCC in Norway in August, I'm thinking about fitting 205/70 on the back to be able to drive a little bit faster... We'll see if they fit.

Hello Roland,

Love your bus, very nice stance.

Can you tell me witch brand off adjustable rear plates your using?
And did you buy the compleet 944 rear brakes from oldspeed or just only the backing plates?

Thanks in advance, greetings
Mycha

So, summer is over! Time to work on the van (a little more than in the summer :) )

The plans are:

- New headliner

- Clean or restore the inside panels

- All new rubber

- New windshield

- Change the front right vent window that's broken

- get the engine out, change or work on the heads

- fit my 091 gearbox

- find the right size of rear tyres

- install extra oil-cooler

- deal with thing I find out along the way..

So, old broken windshield with bubbles in it..

So the whole front naked, just left what I need to drive the bus to the body shop on friday.. Now where did I put my flight goggles?

Nice buss and very good work carried out ;)

Hope the drive to the body shop goes ok  (if you don't wear goggles, you will look something like that!!)

Great work, Roland! 8) Will it be ready for Ninove? 8)

Let's hope so, that's the deadline! :)

gninnam, those split window van people always brag about how cool safari windows are.. I'll find out in a bay :)

Yeah it's a bit scary...

My front panel has been repaired/changed so I guess that's why the rot is so bad..

Just for example of how stupidly repairs can be done, they fitted the radio antenna on the new front panel, then they sprayed it.. when I removed the antenna, it was bare under it...

Go figure out why they did it like that.. :|

Hi Roland,

Your front window frame looks a little like mine, before I've cut out the front.

Guess we both have some more worh to do before we are ready for the baywindow bonanza in Ninove. Hope we get it all sotred by then.

Keep up the good work.

Greetz
