See you have taken the American thing- more cup holders, the classier the ride

Sorry for the lack of updates but i havent really done anything to her yet :(

just ordered a new front and rear deluxe screen seal (just need to find the chrome trims now)
and ordered a new exhaust for better clearance, so the 1641 can go in soon

a few inches lower and its gonna look dope 8)

Cheers, Paul

what wrong with washing machine white  did my bumper in it a few months ago and the rust is through already

i don't normally like empy 5's but they look really well on your bus

empi 5s are not a common wheel now, and they look great on your bus, does it need tubbing, or does it ride okay with the chassis notching etc. looks hard as nails on the steel rims

Does look nice on the polished empi's, personally though i think i'd stay on steels. Just paint them 8)

*in the style of burt reynolds in the cannonball run talking about using a black transam*
"Nah thats been done"

Thanks for the comments guys, looks like my decision was right ;)

and slammedresto... yeah im pretty sure it'll need tubbing as i'll be running 165/50's and they aren't super skinny and i wanna go LOW

I've started a wanted thread for parts i need to complete my bus but I havent had much luck

heres a list of items I need

as its pretty ratty new parts will look out of place so im looking for good used genuine parts

rear bumper (og sunbleached paint one please)
a pair of chrome door mirrors
Good condition front screen (as mines all misty in the bottom corners)
Chrome front badge
Front window chrome trim
Sliding door interior panel & walkthrough front seat covers to match my interior

cheers, Paul 8)

Finally an update 8)
managed to get some of the parts im missing
got some chrome mirros off curly head (thanks dude)
got a rear window chrome insert trim off crewcab (top bloke!)
got front and rear window rubbers from heritage
and found the holy grail! managed to find a matching sliding door panel and a genuine chrome nose badge off a guy in cali from thesamba (just gotta pay for them and wait for them to arrive)
paid for my new wheels (ariving on tuesday)
and found somewhere that does tyres for cheap, £42 fitted for 165/50/15's and about the same for 165/65/15's    so i'll be getting some new rubber on my new shoes this week

still in need of a front screen, patina'd rear bumper, front screen chrome insert & some better front seat covers but at least my wanted list is alot smaller now :D

Ive spent the last 2 weekends mainly in the garage so i have made a little progress

I took the old engine out ready to make way for the 1641. Once the engine was out i noticed that 3 out of 4 of the cv boots were split. So i whipped the driveshafts out, cleaned the cv joints, new grease, new boots, some new bolts etc & put them back in...(bloody messy job)
Yesterday i sold the complete engine i took out to Ted off here (nice bloke 8))
Today i fitted the 1641 :D , the heat exchangers and new monza single tip (cheap and chearfull but lots of clearance), still got to connect the heater cables & fit the carbs & likage
Although i think that engine support bar will need trimming

But i came across something unexpected, this shelf thing, im not even sure what it is
Now i gotta search and see what other people on here have done with it

as theres no way these bad boys are going to fit with it there

More soon

cheers, Paul 8)

Looking good :)

Shelf is the stand for the original oil bath air filter. I think people with twin carbs have to cut it out for clearance but a search should reveal more.

Yeah just cut that shelf off at the base of the stand.

Only problem is I did that when I had a big engine. Now I have had to go back to a stock motor I can't have the stock air filter so have to use a crappy pancake style filter :(

Saw this bus on saturday and it is cool as,
i was toying with having one of those exhausts, but didn't know how loud it would be or if it would foul the valance, i will be watching to see how you get on :D

Ted, my brother has the same exhauset on his samba and it sounds nice (should sound slightly better on mine as i have a tiny bit more grunt), not too loud either just a nice purr and he had no problems with the valance so hopefully neither will i ;)

Cheers kevinhall & EgoTrippin ;)
Tonight i cut off the oil bath shelf. Its a shame i didnt realise it had to come off before i put the engine in as it would have been nice to drill out the spot welds, grind it off and paint the area so it looks like it was never there, looks like its a job for the future

I got the carbs and linkage on tonight

Forgot to give details of the engine
it was built by boardbum off vzi who built the bug i owned for a while
i sold it without the engine so i could keep it for my bus as i knew it was a good one
didnt miss a beat or drip at all and it was really quick plus its only done few thousand miles
Its a 1641cc, based around a mexican vw case with 110 engle cam & twin webber 40s,

Still got to do a few small jobs before i can fire it up though.
I've got to convert the wiring from dynamo to alternator.
Make an extender piece for the part of the linkage that connects to the accelerator cable as its making the accelerator cable foul on the pipe that runs through the fan shroud and its cutting into it.
And plum in the bugpack breather.

Should get that little lot done this week.
Get my new wheels tomorrow :D and i'll get my tyres this week too so i can play with the heigh the weekend :D

Cheers, Paul 8)
