Accelerator pedal broken - hopefully photo shows this - cable detached from the wee bit that holds it into the engine bay. Can this be reattached/crimped in/something else, or is the cable completely knackered and needs fully replaced?

You will need the 'universal' one tho with those twin carbs, the standard one will be to short ;)

Will the universal do for a LHD as well? (The clue probably being in the name).

Yes, the standard one is a solid wire and is about an 25mm to short, trust me I know  the universal is a multi strand thicker wire, the Pedal end is a hook as normal

buy a new one then put the broken one coiled up with a couple of electrical block connectors under the seat and next time it snaps youll be able to make a cable out of the two quickerly and youll be back on your way ;)

Go and buy a t25 lhd accelerator cable.

Single strand and long enough for twin carbs on a bay.

Much neater :)

Broken cable removed. Replacement cable looks to be the same length. Fed through from front - went through the full lenght without much resistance. Went to engine bay but no sign of the cable. tried to pull back through from the front end but only comes back by about a foot then sticks.

What now?

Get under the bus at the back and there is a flexible hose that takes the cable from the chassis to the back of the engine tin, it's probably catching on there

You are correct. used the old wire fed through the engine bay, joined the two ends with masking tape and pulled back through. Thanks for that.

Next. the previosu cable attached to the pedal with the wee bolt/clamp affair. The new one has a hook. Does the hook go straight onto the pedal eyelet thing, or does it go around the bolt and clamp, using the tension to stay on?

Have just hooked it on. Working for now. Going out for a drive - if I'm not back in ten minutes call the breakdown service.
