I went for the Machine 7 conversion kit. Needed a bit of fettling around my standard single carb but got there in the end. No complaints really.

Thanks for that. Does anyone know if I need a carb spacer as it's a single port, single carb. Also is there much difference in quality on the alternator kits available from the main suppliers.

Bosch no longer make alternators, and the end of the run from Brazil had the scrapings thrown in. Chinese ones are a mixed bag - some are good, some are bad - and you may not know for a year. German generators last, and good used alternators are often a better bet.
