As the title says.

Just thinking ahead. Spoke to Manchester Aircooled who informed me that they have been fitting these with no problems for the last 7 years.

I remember a while back that they were not getting great feedback via a well known VW web site. Has anyone used them as looking at their web site they look a great way to go.

There are lots of benefits such as been able to adjust the ride height yourself, not having to take the beam off & maintains full suspension etc....

It would be great if anyone could let me know what they think.

Despite the fear and loathing that many 'net experts expelled onto the kit, Ive yet to hear of any one actually experiencing any problems .....

My findings also.

The net is a great tool and forums a great help, however they can be a double edged sword especialy for traders. All it takes is someone to make a comment that may be not 100% spot on and all hell breaks loose.

I have heard in the past that someone posted negative feedback about a certain supplier & product with the aim of picking up their business as he was the competition.

I'd have to agree with you here i was looking at red 9 too but was put off by a certain site although no one has actually come forward and said theirs failed...

the adjustability is a big plus, but i also found these, http://www.slammedpanel.com, a 4.1 inch drop on spindles alone, ok so its no adjustable but you get a big drop and standard ride quality and its as easy to fit than red 9, the only draw back is you need to send your trailing arms and spindles to be machined so it takes a while, and once done its not reversible like the red nine kit, But you would have no fear of a break etc.

I think nederbus has these fitted and his bus looks really low at the front.

I've already bought a Red9 kit to fit on my bus - I weighed it all up and couldn't actually find anyone with personal experience of a failure - it's all 'my brothers next door neighbours sisters cat had one of those' stories as far as I can tell!

I can't wait to fit it - the fact that it's adjustable was a major plus for me - gives the scope for some adjustment either way to get the look just right...

;)

I know the Doc has one of these kits fitted to his bus, this was done before he bought it. He's had no problems and has had this bus for several years. Didn't even know he had red9 until i popped my head under his bus

Hello all, i'm new to here so wotcha! I run red9 lowered rear spring plates -3inch keep stock torsion with sensible drop, very well made.
good luck- NB they now produce a sort of fail-safe part for the front, just in case!

Oooh! Oooh! Oooh! This product sounds like a potential solution to my locked up avis adjusters because I wouldn't be using the torsion bars anymore! :)

they now make adjustable bumpstops, the main worry was if the shock bolts failed there was no bumpstop of srping tension to stop the bus hitting the ground or tyre, not good while on the move.
if anyone goes for this kit definatly fit the bumpstops

they supply the torsion rods to replace the bars but if your bars are locked you may have to cut out the adjusters to get the new bars to fit if you buy the kit. not sure though

wernt you stuck on "too low"? i guess if you replace the bars and adjusters it will bring you back to stock.

I just got off the phone from talking to Red 9 and the bars they supply would go through the adjuster collar without me having to remove it.

Yes, I'm stuck too low but the Red 9 kit makes the torsion bars redundant. Their bars would go through the adjusters collar but the adjusters would no longer be doing anything so it wouldn't matter that it's locked. The height of my van would then be determined by the Red 9 kit.

I haven't actually placed the order but I'm liking the sound of this because rather than it being a case of spending time and money just to fix a problem (too low van) this will give me a better ride that I would have if the adjusters were working.

it is a good ride quality, the height is detemined by the adjustable coil overs, plus the springs on the coil overs are interchangable so you can get a poundage to suit you.

definatly, definatly buy the adjustable bump stops tho

hi i bought one of these kits soon after buying my first early bay and have had it sitting around my house whilst i got as much info on it as poss (should have done the research 1st !) In the end red9 had it back , after all the input LOTS of people gave my i desided that it wasn't for me , i do still have the red 9 bump stops on though. Yes the ride may have been good etc but i just wouldn't have felt safe driving around with my kids ,with the van suspended on a prest in stud or the stud at the top of the shock tower ( and before anyone says i had renewed the trailing arms the bolts the beem the lot) And no i never did find anyone that HAD had a crash but i wasn't going to be the first.I must say the chaps at red9 have been great. I also email SPAX to talk to them about the kit as i thought there must be a safty test to pass for this kind of mod but nodody ever replied, anyway this is my experience of the kit p.s it does look good though!

someone told me that the shock bolts snap and the van falls down on to the tyre, but then again he also told me he knew a bloke with a porsche engine in a beetle, they bolt straight in dont you know :D

I'm not really sure what you mean by that. What's the worst case scenario here? I thought that if the shock/damper failed it would hit to bump stop?

I spoke directly with the company and they assured me that with over 800 kits sold world wide they have had no major problems.

The only returns were due to the shocks that got replaced straight away with no questions asked.

I have been informed that the system is a lot me technical and doesn't depend on a few bolts to support the whole thing.

If i were to go down this route i'd get it professionally fitted to ensure that if i had any problems or concerns i could go back to them.

Id love to see how its done and the finaly result 8)

I'll see what I can do about pictures but it'll probably end up being a few weeks before I can fit it.

Anybody ever heard a story about a vehicle, not necessarily a dub, that had a wheel come off? I guess you have. I know I have. In one story I was told that they were slowing down at the time, the wheel came off, and overtook them. Very amusing story but a very scary occurrence.

My point however is that if a wheel comes off, the vehicle does not suddenly hit the road at that corner because it has another three wheels to ride on. In the event of one of the Red 9 coil over shocks failing, I don't see why the vehicle would suddenly throw all it's weight onto that corner and drop onto the wheel.
