Bought my Bus in Feb,
Lowered in April, realised the steering box was knackered, replaced it.

Crank shaft pulley broke off in May, replaced that.
Now found out that one of the cylinder heads is leaking and it will need a top end, engine rebuild
I've spend sooooooooooooo much money on it already.

Never even been camping in it. Had planned an epic surf trip this weekend, maybe I'm destined to always be Caravanman :? .

Can't say I've enjoyed my welcome to the Aircooled world :|

I know this is a common story but it's hard when it becomes your own story :!:

At least Green Day have a new album out! ;)

Thats a shame, dood and most of us know what it feels like. I have spent tons on my bus, but now i dont fuck about if it needs it new engine, new beam or whatever. Once its all replaced its just down to pissing about with the finer stuff 8)

Hope all goes well dood and dont worry when it is working its the best thing in the world!

I know how your feeling,

just spent thousands on a new engine, only to have a snapped valve head 300 mile into it. Straight through the piston, bounced off the conrod and smashed through the case. :( It's going to cost just short of another G to replace the 'new' but broken parts.
The only second hand parts fitted, heads n valves. Lesson Learnt.

At least i've got an awning now instead of the tent, in fact i sold the tent at a car boot for £10 just to be rid of it forever

Top end rebuild shouldn't cost to much but after spending a fortune already i know what you mean, just get the bottom end checked before spending on the top end as if the bottoms shot them its wasted money

Can't believe you fitted used valves!

I wouldn't rely too heavily on the new Green Day album for solice....what I've heard of it so far is toss :?

It does look very cool though mate on the plus side!

I think i must have been really lucky in mine as i've only had one thing ever go wrong so far and i've done 3k and counting!

stick with it dude. every car ive bought ive spent months fixing problems that other people have lived with and botch jobs people have done. its worth it in the end!! believe me.

I have done about 300 miles in my van in the 2.5 years I have owned it. I have only slept in it once. It is on it's 3rd gearbox & 4th engine, 3rd front beam, 4th set of wheels & another set waiting.

No matter what aircooled VW you own, it will be the same old thing, once you are on top of it, it gets a whole lot better. I can see light at the end of the tunnel now.

There is no substitute for hard work!

Hiya Wind,

I was once given a very good piece of advice concerning the ownership and maintenance of older previously owned cars. This advice has been spot-on for me.

The first year of ownership will be like a year in Hell. You will have to fix everything the previous owner overlooked or hid. However, once everything is ship shape (and it takes about a year to locate and fix all the problems) you'll have a dependable ride.

Cheers Guys,
Glad I only have 9 months of Hell left
I knew there would be problems, I just didn't realise they'd all happen so quickly.
