There was a thread on here not long ago and I thought I had bookmarked it.
It was about changing gear and whoever it was wrote " 1st Reverse 3rd 4th etc.
Changing from 1st to second I seem to end up in reverse a lot.
Does anyone know where it is. Dummy here can't find it.
It could also have been in the Technical section. Please help. Please move if needed.
Thanks people

Would suspect your gearlever is in the wrong position or your bushes are worn, loosen off the the bottom of the gearlever on the floor, put your bus into second gear and then tighten the 2 bolts back up. If this doesnt work check the front bush in the shift rod and then the rear coupling where it attaches to the box, if either of these have play in them, that could be your problem.

Thank you sir ! I will be on it like a rash tomorrow.

I got mine to go into all gears including reverse but I can't remember what positions they were. What with British bikes, Jap and American stuff now left hand drive I can't remember any of the gear positions, just go with the flow :?

Put it into 2nd gear, loosen the two bolts holding the base of the gearshift and move the gearstick so that the bottom bit is vertical and the cranked bit is at 30 degrees to the rear of the van. Then move the shift plate as far left as possible without moving the gearstick. Tighten the two bolts. This should help selection of 1st and 2nd.
If the lever doesn't travel straight forward and back in the 1st/2nd plane, try slightly twisting the shift plate.

Finally got the shifter out, now I can see why so difficult.
Once out this spacer was under shifter on floor is it right?
I am positive that there is something missing. :?
Any help appreciated please.

Thanks madmike , I just discovered and the spacer was a piece of tin bent into a square.
Does anybody have a picture of the spacer by any chance or even better one available?

Thanks for any help.
