Quite a lot. Primarily you'd need to hack about a lot of the metal in the engine bay, as the motors are quite differently sized. And there's a hanger/engine support issue somewhere too, I forget where.

You'd want to change the gearbox too, the TIV doesn't need to spin as much as the 1600. You'll just waste more fuel if you don't.

Generally regarded as more effort than it's worth. It's easier to fit a TIV into a Splitbus than an early Bay, I've heard (from people who've done Splitbus work mainly). For the same effort/price you can build a really nice typeI motor instead.

Mind you, I do love the typeIV motor, it's just such an improvement over the 1600 (in my opinion! - I won't get into that perpetual argument here), except the fact that it's got two carbies (I've a [pre-FI] '74 (1800), a '69DD (1600) and a '67 Split (1776), for comparison).

Cheers, A.

Glad I didn't buy that bargain T4 motor off ebay, then !

Apart from anything else, I think the type 1 looks so much better.

Well that made up my mind for me as to what to do with the 1700 lump sat in me shed !
