Hi people. I need advice /reassurance re the red gen light. I'm currently away in the van this weekend around cornwall and the red generator light has come on. I have checked v belt and all seems fine ie not broken or slipping. Does this just mean the generator is knackered and not charging battery but will get me home tommorrow. Or is it more sinister. Any advice much appreciated. I'm off to pub to mull it over now but will be back on at closing time to check for any comments. Cheers people.

i had this happen to mine .i drove round to a local garage and they cleaned the bushes no probs quick fix
hope thats all it is :)

Earl may be on something, it might just be some shite on the brushes and comutator inside the generator. But if it does turn out to need replacing, upgrade to an alternator mate that would be the ideal time in my opinion. £129 for a 55amp kit is a worthwhile buy. But its up to you if that does come up :D

Cheers lads you've put mind at ease re this. At I can get home hopefully without too much drama. I think i,ll go for the upgrade when back. It's the first time the gen light has come on for me and I had visions of the van shooting up in flames for some reason.

If the red light is on the battery is not charging, so use lights, cd player as little as possible or else it will go flat.

It wont go up in flames, probably a minor generator fault as suggested above. A properly serviced generator will be fine. Only upgraade if you need the power ie high power cd player or amp etc.
