Ok daft question time- I am trying to change my fuel filter that is situated under the bus just after the fuel tank outlet.

The problem I'm having is that the damn thing just wont come loose from the rubber pipes!

I am under the vehicle, but I tried getting it off with some force but the filter started to bend.

Is there a tip for getting the rubber pipe ends off the plastic filter without having to destroy the pipes, by cutting them off?

any suggestions welcome :) :)

Just cut it out after the filter and replace with a piece of new fuel pipe?

yes mate, I suppose that's the answer! It's the first time I have changed the filter and just thought it would be a '5 minute job'

I've got some spare 5.6mm pipe so can do that.

I can see why a lot people still have it in the engine!

You should know by now there is no such thing as a "5 minute job" on an early bay ! If there is one it only leads to uncovering something else you want to upgrade/repair etc. I took the firewall off mine while I have the engine out - just to check the breather and filler hoses. I found corrosion under the tank -took tank out -found rust in the bottom about to go through -ordered later type tank as couldn't justify extra £180 for early type and didn't want to risk a used one that could be worse than the one I have - I am still trying to put it all together again as breather pipe different- outlet in different place and return needs blocking off etc !

I know! :?

I just had one of those moments where you think you're missing something- 'it can't be that difficult'

I will be adding a butty's bit throttle lever soon, that's supposed to be a 20 minute job. I'll put aside an afternoon then!

Good luck with your fuel tank. :)
