Help Engine Seized. Type 4

The engine I've just fitted seems seized. It was imported from the US with my van and was supposed to be a runner, e.g. Has clean oil, decent dizzy etc. but I thin it was standing for a while.

I think the rings must be rusted to the bores. I've tried wd40 in the plug holes, rocking in gear but it won't budge so I've pulled the engine thinking I might be able to turn it from the flywheel end but that's not easy.

All I can think to do now is bolt a bar onto the flywheel and try turning that

I only need the engine to run for an mot then can have a full rebuild but not suspect I will need to pull the heads off, bores etc and do I minor rebuild which I really could do without. I only want an mot to get it registered the start the restoration and there is a lot of work to do. This therefore is a major setback.

Any ideas?

I'd have thought that if it is as seized as it sounds, that getting it running will do more harm to it - and that's even if it would run again for a short period.

The mot test checks for visible emissions - I'd presume that if you can even un seize it that it will be chucking a lot of oily smoke out of it so will probably fail anyway.

How come it has to be MOT'd before rebuilding, is it just so you can legally run it in after?

I had an MOT a couple weeks back with no emissions test. I took it to the garage that Pete Nice uses so they are probably aware of the above rule quoted.

There is no test as such, but the question will appear on the testers sheet as to whether there is excessive smoke from the exhaust - I.e. If it is burning a lot of oil, the tester should fail it as obviously it's a bit dangerous on the roads. As with a lot of these things, it all comes down to who is testing it and how strict they are!
