Help! Weedeater beam and dropped spindles - tooooooo looooow

Hi All

A little history, I have a 69 westie with a weedeater beam but the ride was rough so I bought some transporterhaus dropped spindles, my mate put them on the van and it was veeery looow, too low, this was with the weedeater beam on maximum adjustment, so we had the beam cut and turned so it could be adjusted higher and tried again. However, and this is where my stupidity will show as I don't really understand how this works, in order to get the spindles on the top adjuster on the beam had to be left loose and Shen it was dropped it was perfect, unfortunately after we sat in it it lowered further, tooooooo looow.

Are we doing something wrong? Do we need to do up the top adjuster on the beam and if we do, how do you do it?

I presume the beam was cut and turned on both tubes? If so, then the adjusters also have to be set at the same adjustment. Don't run with them at differant settings else the ride will be choppy.

I think this is what you mean...

Crane your head under the van and take a look at the adjusters. You'll soon figure out how they function.

I know what you mean but my friend says we will have use blocks and bars we are going to try next weekend, do you think that will make it stay higher or just smooth out the ride?

Both, if that is indeed how things are at the moment.

Here's a trick for you and you freind to try. Undo one of the big bolts that hold the spindles on at each side. This will release the tension that the torsion springs are fighting each other against and should help in allowing the adjusters to move more easily.
