my van got hot.the weekend, 260 farenheit (104.4c) and im thinking about getting a bugpack oil cooling kit with a fan.
have you got one? are they any good? will it keep my bus cool? :|

i must say i was towing a very small caravan (470 kg) but only at 40 mph :|

i drove all over europe last summer with one on my 1835 which i was told are renound for running hot and my engine didn t budge over 180degree f i was impressed as it was damm hot in france n belguim last summer

i would say there was probably something wrong with the cooling system on your engine. i would check all the tinware etc is okay before you think about putting more cooling stuff on, what engine is it?

I drove around Europe last summer and hit 250 highest, this was on a motorway going up hill through northern Italy. Recently mine has been driving on short trips at 220 - 230 now the engine is getting re-built

How/where was this temperature measured?

How accurate is the gauge?

With an accurate set up measuring the oil in the sump 104C is not a problem.

You only need to start worrying if starts going over 115C.

Dont forget these vehicles never had temp gauges and were used all over the world including tropical mountains and deserts whilst often overloaded. I dread to thing what readings those vehicles would have given

i love how noone has mentioned my method of cooling.
drive faster!!!!

i should probably mention (disclaimer) my van has been off the road since i blew the engine up driving uphill at 70 in the middle of summer.....

Jamie oliver used the same method to try to out out an engine fire

Probably worth doing a check off all the relevant bits anyway.
Check fan for FOD, check the bolt is tight. If you can get to it check theres nowt blocking the oil cooler either.
Check all tinwear is intact, check all seals are intact. Having a knackered engine seal can make a big difference.
Also worth checking your timing and mixture as if set incorrectly can lead to running hot.
Wouldn't hurt to give it an oil change either.

its a standard 1600 twin port.all ways serviced and the oil is changed every 3000 miles ish
all rubber seals are good and fitted right
i drive it over 10.000 miles a year and it runs about 180 to 220 all the time.

temp gauge reading comes from the bottom left of the engine.

thanks
