I was getting exasperated at my fuel economy around town and on drives over hilly areas in my 1600 aircooled so I did an experiment on Sunday - I drove to Borth some 100+ miles from my house, I tried to match the figures Lou and used to get in our newer vans back in the day - in those days we reguarly got 30+mpg on our trips to Italy and locally in the uk so i wondered why my van was so thirsty now - truth is it's not but I have been gunning it to get up hills etc - This time I did a proper economy drive and returned the best figures yet- my van has a single carb is quite well tuned and the weather was very hot which is good for the fuel oxygen mix as apposed to colder weather - I was well chuffed and i believe flatter roads would have returned slightly better figures - I am not complaining as anything over 28 is a bonus
