Ive heard nothing but bad stuff about Midland wheels on VZi but i tend to think at least 50% of that could be know nothings just agreeing with people who have had bad experiance.

So what do you guys think of them???

Ash.

I'll get shot for saying this, BUT

They are fine, the only reason so many people slag them off is they have ripped off other people's wheels and now sell them cheaper than the people they ripped them off from! I do feel bad for the bloke that had his wheels ripped off though!

I've run MWS wheels on both the van's I've had, the lacquer on the first set i had did start to craze eventually after i'd curbed them good and proper,

then i learn't not to drive like such a prick ;) and have on the latest van got the un-lacquered plain unpainted jobbies and they are a bitch to polish but come up great!

My theory is buy what you can afford, MWS wheels are what most people can afford ;)

Pretty much

MWS wheels are much much better than they used to be
But I did find god awful customer service, so not a first choice for me again
Cheap tyres at shows though!

They are a budget option, they do good deals at shows and the quality has improved.

Their chrome, paint and lacquer still don't match up to some of the other companies on the market.

My brother has a set of 4.5" polished fuch's on his bus. They were £450 delivered with tyres (185/65/15 and 175/55/15 Yoko's), centre caps nuts and locking nuts all ballanced and ready to go. They have been on the bus for over the year and apart from polishing regularly they are great.

I have a set of Speedmasters which are fantastic quality but here is the cost: Wheels £700, Tyres £200, Bolts £50......that is £500 more

Yeah we've got MWS Chrome Empi 5's on the bug and being sat on the driveway for October and November has basically ruined them.

Chances are ill be on stock steels in winter so salt etc wont be a problem (then again i might be lazy and leave them on  ) for me if the quality of the wheels themselves are ok then its all about the look. Id love a set of JGE Torkers but i cant justifiy £625 for a set of wheels that i will use everyday rain or shine (basically ruin after a while) when i can get the same look £400 cheaper. I may well plumb for them. Like i said its just a case of quality of the wheel. Im not all that fussed at that price if i have to balst them and powder coat them in a couple of years.

This is one of the reasons i like this forum, if id asked the same quaestion on VZi it would have been "they dont balance ive heard" and "absolute crap my mate had a set".

Cheers dudes.

I've just had these delivered. From MWS

Quality seems great for the money, I've ran MWS on an old MK1 escort stage rally car in the past and never had an issue, so I'm coll with them.

Like yourself though, I'll probably run my stock wheels in the Winter.

Those are the ones im considering. they look wicked. They seem cheap at £300 so £200 cant be bad. I think i may go for a set unless i find a good set of BRM's first

Cheers dude!

One think worth checking is the wheel offsets. MWS offsets have always been very poor and a saving on the price of a wheel may well be lost when you want them to fit nicely.

My mate Paul (no, he really does exist! ;) ) bought a set of 5x112 repro Fuch wheels from MWS and they wouldnt go on the back of his van as they fouled the arches (its a 69 with late running gear). He then bought a set of SSP Fuch repros that bolted on easily.

Itll be cheaper and easier to spend a couple of hundred at the rims and not have to narrow a beam to regain the added inches.

Good point well made. Ill look into it. I know you need to shave a wee bit off the rear drum to get the spokes in but i can sort that. I might just wait til buddysbuddy fit his then   Ill be narrowing the beam aswell but the back end is staying as it is so will need a looking into. :D

Cheers.

i had a set of Midland sprintstars on my bug and drove it all winter in heavy snow, the laquer did start to bloom slightly because they were out in salt all the time and i probably didn't take enough care of them. The quality was excellent and they looked the business too.

I think alot of the bad rep is unfounded for the reason already mentioned but you wont beat them on value for money i think.

I would recommend keep the wheels for the summer and run steels in the winter if your out in the bus, but its the same with all laquered wheels from any supplier.

Same here :( I bought two chrome Empi 5's from VWHeritage (I already had 2 Ebay)and there cast MWS on the rear.
Fitted them in July and removed in December..the chrome is all pitted with white spots, but to be fair they do state - sunny climate chrome -
no problems with balancing -offset or air leaks on the rim.
Ive heard a few people on vzi say that there brms are a bit tight on the rear, but if your slamming it you should be ok(camber).Good wheels for the price, just beware of the chrome, unless its just a summer ride.

Ive also got two Empi 5's made by KN WHEELS but they don't seem to sell them any more....could be rare  one day :D

I used to have a classic shaped mini and MWS was the company that most mini folk recommended / bought there wheels from.
Never used them but i will as they sem to be the only company selling the wheels i want 8)

This is the reason I bought there 4.5" fuch's for my brother, even with the 185/65/15 tyres on the rear they went straight on, where as the 5.5" are very tight.

To be honest though mate chrome wheels and england just dont go together. I know an awesome chromer and he wont touch wheels as they take too much abuse even in summer.

Like i said at £200 ill get the paint stripped and powder coated when it eventually happens. Super tempted now! :D

Make sure the bolts they send with the wheels are the correct size and not too long dude. I would advise turning the wheel while it's still in the air, before driving.

Ill remember that one too dude. I can shorten um and chamfer them here so not too much of a problem unless you drive it first that is
