Hi
I ve just spayed my van over the past 2 nights, first night great no runs, tonight i was rushing and have quite a few runs, what is the best way to remove them.
How long do i wait to do it? Do i let the paint go hard or try when the paint is 24 hrs+ ?

Will i need to put on another coat or will wet and dry then polishing be ok?
Thanks
Gary

personaly i would leave it for a few months, preferably out in the sun, it takes a whle to dry, and rushing wil only make it look worse, re build the van, run it for a summer, then flat it back and polish it up later on.

You can get run cutters from frost.co.uk, these take a rasor blade and are adjustabe so you can skim the run off the surface, the other method is to wait about a week for the paint to cure a bit the take some 600 grit wet and dry on a flatting block, wet paper and use dish liquid start rubbing the runs out, keep a hose running over the surface, you dont want any grit under the paper. The flat again with 1200 grit till you have a fine finish. Final polish with a good paint cutting compound till it shines.

Only issue you may have is the aras you rub back will be very flat and shiny, so any areas that are slightly uneven will show up a bit more, you may have do do a whole side to get it matched in, should look good though.

As above......also you can get run pads, a very small foam pad with wet an dry surface to one face, generally flower shaped to avoid stark contrast when rubbing down, its long labourious but gently removes the run and as above plenty of clean water and rinse the wet and dry out.....

Found these on you tube uses a razor to flatten the runs then wet and dry them.

Thanks for your help

WOAH WOAH WOAH! 600!??!

You need a block, a bucket of water (with some washing up liquid in to break the surface tension and to prevent the block sticking to the surface)

Start with 1000 grit to remove the runs, then 2000 the rest of the fresh paint to remove the orange peel effect, then hit it with 4000.
Then you'll want to machine polish with Farecla G6 Rapid (its pretty much replaced G3)

Out of interest what have you painted it with? I'm guessing as its a home job it'll be 2 pack or celly?

1500 wet then machine polish is the way I would go with G3 or 3M compound.

You might find that you will rub through to primer next to the run. Sometimes it's better to 600 wet or 360 dry the whole thing & paint it again carefully.

I built & painted this myself. 2pac paint, air dried, flat & polish the next day with 1500 wet & G3 mop.

That is a big problem with G3, on a complete car it needs a jet wash handy & do a panel at a time.

I painted/sprayed it with rustoleum

reason was because i liked the colour (never lose it in a car park)and it's a rust inhibitor
Yes it's a home garage job, great to work with 12 inches on either side not!!
