Could you tell me if the engine number is shown on the original / 1st copy of the V5 ?

I have a 'spare' engine (condition unknown) that came with my bay when I bought it,
Now the code (AB,single port) puts it in correct age to possibly be the original for van......
But,on my logbook it states engine number 'not known'.Has this just been dropped over time,or was it never known ?
I've checked a few threads about 'birth certificates' and it seems that engine number is not on there ?

If its not the original engine,i can re-home it,but if it is i'd like to hold on to it.

I can't comment on the V5 search but was able to seek confirmation on whether our engine no matched the one given to our bus in the factory through the VW birth certificate team in Wolfsburg.

I gave an incorrect engine no on my birth certificate application form and was able to pay extra to get the revised number checked again against their records.

They won't give you the engine no held on record but will confirm whether your engine matches their records (yes or no reply). So I'm guessing you could do the same and pay extra to get both engine numbers checked through their records.

If you really want to know it might be worth an ask before you give up the spare. Hope that helps :D

Thanks for the reply :)

I'll look into this, but on the previous threads I've read, getting a response from the birth cert. place can take months too...

Engines been stored years, since I got van so a while longer won't hurt.
