Guys , has or is anyone running a separate fuel tank for their night heater , I would be interested to see what you may have and where you have placed it?

I had an diesel airtronic in mine and used a small washer bottle from a scrapyard, located just above the leisure battery, worked fine.

Martin

I have a gallon Diesel tank strapped in opposite the battery tray. Heater works fine on the move, have the heater ticking over when driving keeps the van toasty.

Steve beat me to it but here's the pic I just took by torchlight. It's the same setup that I have used before. 5L diesel. Offered up for the pic only. Will strap down.

I use mine on the move. The manual states that the inlet should not face the slipstream.

Phil.

Mine is as in the photo, i have the heater under the back seat with the outlet pointing towards the windscreen it defrosts the screen fine.

got a 3lt go kart tank off ebay for £15

deffo not finished but i will be cutting a hole into the floor and piping the heater into the buses heating channel.

where did you run the exhaust to when mounted in this location?

I'm thinking about where to run my exhaust without gassing myself

The exhaust exits the back and i made a bracket to attach it to the gearbox , see pics

I was thinking I would have to run it right to the edge of the bus, does it suffer from any fumes in the cabin having it there or is it okay?

+1 on the outboard fuel tank only mine is metal and fits nice and tight length ways front to back the same side as Stuart's.
Stuart actually talked me through the positioning of the components for my build, well chuffed with result although on initial start up it sounds like a Harrier Jump Jet on take off!

These heaters were fitted to almost all vw's here in norway......

My personal view is THEY ARE DANGEROUS!!! but I know alot of people use them....

Here is a picture of were mine was fitted (at the factory!) and the fuel supply was just T'd off the main engine fuel line.....
)

WHY are they dangerous , almost all modern trucks have them fitted, never ever ever heard of an issue with one, new or old

I wouldn't like to run a petrol one. Far too volatile - & in the engine bay.
Also all that fuel has been heavily taxed.
Mine's diesel & I run it on red diesel.

Eberspacher tell you to run your exhaust beyond the edge of the vehicle so that the hot fumes cannot raise & get trapped underneath & possibly get into the passenger compartment.
Inlet air pipe should also be the same length as the exhaust.

Yeah most of the MODERN ones haven't been sitting in the back of a VW for 30+ years!!!

Put it this way....... Setting fire to petrol in the engine bay!!!??? Sounds Dangerous to me :(

And then there is the "Exhaust Gases" I just don't like the idea of using such an old part for heating my bus hence why I sold mine ;)

setting fire to petrol in an engine bay is dangerous?

we're all doomed!!

Quite a few friends run (mostly ex-BT) diesel ebers, usual tank choice is either one for an outboard or a small ex-motorbike/scooter one.

Exhausts run to the side opposite the sliding door to avoid filling the awning with fumes when camping in the cold!

If you use it on the move how do you avoid
Spilling out of the breather cap?

Don't get me wrong I have a
diesel esp and would like to use it
When driving it has to go under the
Rock and roll bed with the flue tank
Doesn't the flue tank have to be breathable
So how can it be done safely and without
Stinking the bus out with diesel.

Ps my esp heater is currantly in the garage
Hooked up to a leisure battery and a big hole
out the side of the garage wall. All the neighbours
Think I'm mad. But at least I'm warm
