Cut the panel to fit but noticed that the curvature wasn't the same to cut some slits and re-profiled it to be a better fit.

Disaster today :(

Didn't check the welder and wasn't aware that I had knocked it on to full power!!
Noticed a few holes so decided to weld them up - blew a big hole in the metal, but some of the weld splatter got to the passenger seat and a fire ensued.....

Not happy but could have been a lot worse I suppose!

Treated the bare metal with rust stuff so once dry will apply a skim of filler and seam sealer and the a lick of paint.

Keep up the good work!

Good to see you and catch up last week... It's been too long!

Gutted about the seat :(

Thanks for the encouragement (and the bits which will come in handy :))

Was good to see the pair of you and good luck on the house move too!!

Rain, rain go away :(

Pulled out my old tarp hoping it was wider than it was so I could work on the front (both sides) but it only covered the one - never mind.

Removed the spindle then the lower trailing arms - took a photo so I know at what angle it need to go back on:

Then freed the upper traiing arms so again took a photo (sorry about the quality but still got the duff camera phone!

Tomorrow is MotoGP so won't be touching it for a few days :)

Managed to get the steering and gear-linkage components out of the way over the last few days so today re-positioned the axle stands so I could remove the front beam.

Quick pic (not good quality) showing all the bits out of the way:

Removed the beam on my own - no issues although wouldn't recommend Hammerite metal paint as it didn't protect the beam (not very clear in the pics) very well - remember,

the beam was sandblasted then painted and the van never went anywhere (under its own steam!!!):

Chassis looks OK so will be cleaning up and treating/painting etc.
Will remove the rest of the ancillaries (steering box, master cylinder etc) then start to clean/protect/paint etc:

Decided to cut the brake MC as one of the bolts would not budge plus it is probably past it's sell-by date and when it comes to brakes, you cannot be to careful :)

A few pics.

Trying to pull the lever (pitman?) off of the steering box but proving to be a bugger - manage to move it about 5mm. My puller keeps slipping off.
Will keep at it and I will get it off!

Working away last few weeks so had some time this morning to see if I can get the pitman arm off - no joy :(
Had spent some time removing the underseal from under the front offside arch which went well.
Put some rust converter on and then today added some seam sealer

Once sufficiently hardened I chucked on some etch primer - will leave this for a day or so then go over the seam sealer where I have noticed that coverage wasn't great then get some primer and top coat on - happy days :)

Getting there!!!!!!

Thanks - so long as it penetrates etc the look is not as important (keep on telling yourself that :) )
Slowly but surely!

Hey Andy, you have gotta be on the home straight now. Real shame about the seat, I`ll keep my eyes open for a pair of seats, you never know what`s about to pop up.

Cheers Ozzie - still a lot to do so still not sure if I will get it finished this year, but may be close (depends on time/weather/funds) :D
