I had a similar problem and used a soldering iron to melt the hole a little larger , thereby allowing for the outer to still fit without to much fiddle.
Hope this helps.

Good idea - will give that a go :party0049:

That oemepc site....shows a set up. Shows the grommet discussed. Whether the Crossover has quirks? Who knows.

Cheers - think it is the same - will have a goat getting them in soonish.

Yours is coming on well too.

Have you been working on yours all the way through my early bay hiatus? That's true commitment

Thanks.
Yes, been working on it during your stay of absence :D
So close and yet so......

Jacked the front of the van up and put it on axle stand.

This is what the brake pipe looked like after I fettled it:

Now looks like this - clears where the gear linkage will come through better:

20181011_172303_zps2poyihlj.jpg

Fitted the brake MC before the light failed - the bolt nearest the drivers side is a bugger….

20181011_180253_zpspghilkwi.jpg

I fitted the plugs on for the brake lights etc:

A view from the front (camera pics a few areas up that will require a coat of red paint):

Looking good. So....when you are re-assembling all this intricacy, is it that you read up ahead🤔? Or is it a skill you already know🤓? Or does it just come naturally😎🤗? Or......is it years of knowledge about technical stuff, rules and regs and not VeeDub specific? Interested in why you just get it to all come together ‘just like that’. Great work.

Thanks - Most of the time its obvious but sometimes you have to search or just ask someone.
Been working on cars since I could drive - biggest thing I worked on (engine wise) was a V8 Audi A8. Was fun changing the oil pipe for the oil cooler as had to strip the front of the car off and lift the engine slightly to get to it - such fun :)

You’re like a duck to water then. Great to have those natural and inquisitive skills finely balanced. Like my Dad. Was in the REME and took everything apart to find out how it all went back together. Hope the winter won’t hold you back with your bus. Mind you...there’s always dry indoor working projects for them isn’t there?

Most of what I need to do is under the van (putting bits together such as brakes, steering, suspension etc) - did nothing but rain all day yesterday so got nothing done :(
I suppose I should start to rebuild the engine - some of the tinware I sprayed have reacted so they need redoing again!!
Cheers

This evening (before the light faded) was front brake time.

Looking for one of these for the nearside (left) that the flexi hose connects to:

20181017_165545_zpsy9hibxi4.jpg

Don’t remember seeing this when I dismantled the suspension many years ago so need one please so I can finish the nearside brakes ;)

So, offside started - flexi hose first:

20181017_172105_zpshvxxpqe0.jpg

Pipe then fitted to caliper:

20181017_173857_zps8s7lc1u8.jpg

Pipe then fed from underneath the drivers area, bent and connected up:

20181017_174941_zpsfibvlqlf.jpg

Grommet added:

20181017_174945_zpsajjq1tyy.jpg

View of the grommet added on the inside chassis rail (so exciting - I am so good to you lot….):

20181017_180206_zpstkn8aqxw.jpg

Left and right from pipes meeting up with the T fitment - need to work out where to fit this (don’t really want to drill holes though):

20181017_180215_zpshpbwx0sx.jpg

Right, the only issue I think I have is the pipe in the kit that goes from the MC to the pressure regulator - think it is too short by at least 12 inches but will double check when the light is better tomorrow.

An hour well spent I would say :)

Cheers

Getting later early plus quite cold tonight once that sun disappears….
Cleaned the rod that goes from the brake pedal to the mc and fitted. Will need adjusting once brake fluid is added.

A trial fit of the handbrake linkage. Does it look right?

21.10.2018

Busy day today, doing brakes and stuff.
Started by taking off the drums and fitting the handbrake cables - no real issues (fairly straight forward).

(I moved the rubber on the handbrake cable so it’s under the arm :) )

Mounted the steering box:

21.10.2018 cont’d

Handbrake arm got a lick of paint also:

20181021_135544_zpslpw9lbyo.jpg

Also fitted the brake pipe that goes from the rear to the front of the pressure compensator:

20181021_150607_zpsbb87lzxu.jpg

20181021_150616_zpsbledpzk1.jpg

Bought a ready made brake pipe kit and the pipe from the compensator to the MC is too short by about 10 cm so will contact Heritage tomorrow to see what can be done (probably have to buy a single one).

Cheers

Looks a treat. There’s a Wordpress link about rear brakes. Talks about the handbrake and adjustment. Probably ‘teaching Grandma to suck eggs’ country with your knowledge, but is interesting. Winter nights are a pain. Clocks back soon too. You need a bigger light and a pair of thermals! I go to work in the dark and come back in the dark with my long day shifts. Feel like a vampire. But....springs around the corner. 🌤 Got to be an optimist. https://zerotosixtyeventually.wordpress.com/2018/09/28/rear-brake-rebuild-part-3-final/

Nothing on the box. To dark to work outside. Had my evening meal and was board.
Let’s go out to the garage and see what I can do.
Ah - the front bumper was waving at me (OK, it wasn’t) so why not strip it of the paint.
Started on the inside and was very satisfying:

All done.

Noticed a few raised areas on the inside which meant the outside would have dents - the paint was level so I figure the artist formerly known as Bondo must have been in town and sure enough…..

20181024_212857_zpswhgwam4v.jpg

Removed most of the paint from the area and started to bang it back out - will do this for all the other areas:

Might do a bit more tomorrow but its the wife’s birthday so maybe not a good move ;)

Cheers

Hey! I don’t understand. I can’t think with lateral insight. See a bump and turn it over? How did you recognise a bit of ‘oh oh !’ Did you say “Om” put your index fingers to your temples while closing your eyes and then gain enlightenment? Hats off. Experience of past experiences I suppose. Never would have worked that one out in a month of Sunday’s. I’d have blamed paint/dirt covered rust or a bit of old bolted plate/washer or the fact it had 40 year plus road junk adhered or hardened sheep/cow poo coz I’m in Welsh countryside. But I’m a newby. Cool. Very cool. 😎. Glad you’re still able to apply to the bus whilst inside and warm.

28.10.2012

Finished removing the paint from the front bumper and not to bad - will eventually spray a guide coat of paint and sand back so I can see where I need to work on the metal to make it smoother:

20181028_150629_zps4egnt1bl.jpg

Also started on the side parts and not too good - some rubbish fixes.
Think I will take them to work and see if I can have them sand blasted then work out what repairs will be needed:

30.10.2018

Received the nearside mounting bracket for holding the brake lines so cleaned it up and gave it a tickle with some paint - will look to get it mounted soon:
