Made a start on adding the rear suspension.
Added the rear arms - no issues.
But, can’t find where I put the rear bushes or torsion bar covers

When I find the rest of the stuff I will continue to rebuild!

Wish they were then I would know where they are - I remember them being in a plastic bag o will have a look for them this week sometime.

Great news - found the missing parts this afternoon where I thought they were but they were hidden - DOH!!

Light was starting to fade when I started to put things together plus showers and having to pick up the daughter from work and eating tea….
Measured the angle of the bus then used this to work out the angle of the plates then started to put them all together.

A pic of the offside and nearside while installing:

Looked for longer bolts to assist with mounting the spring plates. But on first pass only found these which did not have threads all the way but a start.

Next was the offside - found a pair of bolts which were longer and with thread all the way so used these to pull the spring plate towards the chassis.
Once pulled enough put in the final bolts and all tightened up:

Dependant on work and the weather, will finish adding all the bits for the rear suspension then lower it down to the ground

Looking good. Glad you found them. It’s close to winter. They were intentionally hiding away. . Are there rubber bushes involved between those plates? Can’t tell. Step closer must feel good.

...........those dots? Tried to look up. Nearest I got was ‘Spring Plate’, ‘Torsion bar’ and ‘Torsion bar cover’. Wheels are good.....gets your pride and beauty from A ️ to Z .

After making tea, went outside to sort the spring plate on the offside which I hadn’t fitted.
Not as straightforward as the near side one but after an hour managed to get it all tightened up

Decided, just before the light totally failed, to mount the hub and that wasn’t to bad - pics to show all in situ:

If the weather holds out will try and do the other side and fit some old shocks I have plus wheels and perhaps lower it

Remember that song ‘Three wheels on my wagon?’ Well you’re playing it backwards. Putting them on instead of off. All your attentions and preparations to the bits, bobs, metalwork? Really paid off. Looking very, very tidy. Higgity, haggity hoggety, high. Pioneers, they never say die.

Nearside hub all connected up and looking grand:

For the first time in many year (could be 5 but who's counting…) a wheel on

We have touchdown - rear end totally on the floor:

Added some air as the tyres have not been touched for at least 12 years..

The shocks I have are too small, checking on web, turn out they are for a Beetle (well I did get given them) so will need to add a pair of those to the list of things still to buy


Will look to get the front beam on next (if I have time).

Bloody hell, 4 days on the trot I have managed to update the thread!!!

With the help of my lad, managed to get the front beam installed and looking good

With the light fading fast, tackled adding the arms to the front hubs - offside:

Then the nearside:

Realised with the offside brake calipers that I didn’t get bleed nipples so will get some ordered soon!!

That’s it for tonight - see if I can get these mounted to the beam tomorrow.

Looks strong, healthy, clean as a whistle. Been looking at that breakdown parts link on that oemepc site. Fascinating putting your the real McCoy pics parts and the drawings on the site together. Kind of makes you understand the intricacies you’ve been dealing with. Great part this on your thread. The realisation of ‘it’s coming home’.
