I have built up my standard 1600cc engine using the 043101355CK heads (https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Shop_by_Vehicle~Beetle_Products~Beetle_Engine_Products~Barrels-C-_Pistons_and_Cylinder_Heads~Cylinder_Heads~Standard_Cylinder_Heads~Twin_Port~1600cc/043101355CKPAIR/1600cc_040_Twin_Port_Cylinder_Heads_-OB-Pair-CB-_-OB-32x35.5-CB-_-_1971-79_-_T1-C-T2-C-KG-C-T3.html) and 311198069FR barrels and pistons (https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Shop_by_Vehicle~Beetle_Products~Beetle_Engine_Products~Barrels-C-_Pistons_and_Cylinder_Heads~Barrels_and_Pistons~Standard_Barrels_and_Pistons~1600cc_-OB-85.5mm-CB-/311198069FR/1600cc_Barrel_And_Piston_Kit_-OB-Cast_85.5-CB-_Reproduction.html) from CoolairVW, however, I cannot get my rocker arms to sit correctly on the stands, they are too high. I have backed the adjusters right off but there still seems to be too much tension, I am reluctant to tighten the assembly down. My pushrods are the standard 280mm (https://photos.app.goo.gl/FAmnNGFZ292u893j6).
When assembling the top end, I did a mock-up first to measure the deck height which came out at a perfect 1.50mm (https://photos.app.goo.gl/eEvzdgTznBGtZzb16) without the need for any spacers. Previously, I had 2 shims below each barrel (approx 0.95mm and 0.85mm), however, that must have been required for the old head/barrel combination.
Does the standard rocker arm assembly require shimming with these heads to ensure it provides enough clearance? Or should I switch to shorter pushrods?
