Hi,

Wondering if anyone has or knows about one of these kits I can try out. Can't upgrade to dual carbs on my '71 as the petrol heater will be in the way. I guess a centre mount IDF is the next best thing...

Will pay £150 - £200 depending on condition...

Thanks,
Jim

Dont think you will have enough height clearance in a bus to centre mount an IDF, especially if you want an air filter on it?

Disagree I'm afraid, a flat pancake air filter will not supply enough airflow for an IDF in the middle of a hot engine bay on a bus, I think you'll get poor running issues like most people get when they run a weber progressive which is why people dont bother with them and stick with the standard carb set up or go to twins.

Be a shame to spend the money and then find it doesn't work that well,

Graham is right, The height will be a major issue and a single IDF would not make any great gains over a stock Solex due to the length of the intake manifold plus they are a b*stard to tune. Surely a set of ICT's or maybe Kardons would fit?

Cheers for the replies guys. All valid points I have considered at some time before. I really do hope I can go with twins, but the space is limited... I will trawl through some more pics on the samba. Let me know if you see any similar setups.

There are some second hand manifolds on the samba so could get one of them shipped over fairly cheap and then yeah, an repairable IDF off fleabay would suit.

Still would prefer some Kads though... I need pictorial evidence! Kads and Eberspacher???? That's the biggie...

Cheers,
Jim

Update...

I couldn't find any pics as referance. I can tell you I have around 35mm from edge of fanhousing (HEX pipe) to petrol heater. I expect this is no-where near enough space for a set of duals...

Anyway, i'm still trying to get the stock carb running smoothly. It's a Mexican Brosal and leaking fuel from the throttle shaft spindles. Reading up, it appears this is related to too much fuel in the float bowl, either from to high fuel pressure and/or sticking float needle valve.

Ages ago I took the fuel tank out and was presented with this...

And now having stripped the carb down i'm looking at this...

So some carb cleaner and a rebuild kit is in order. However! as part of the strip I removed the bushings in the throttle shaft and damaged them in the process  I'm struggling to find anyone that can supply replacements. Bit of a **** design to be honest. Just looks like a piece of metal bent into a cylinder... Might be able to repair/bodge, but would like to confirm not easily available?

Many thanks
Jim

PS. I guess this should now be in the tech section???

You can get new throttle bushes on ebay, can't remember who from though, well easy to fit and make a good difference.

And yeah, a pancake filter won't allow the petrol to vapourise properly.

Found a chap by the name of anden on VZi posting for 8 quid.

My fuel pressure was at 5psi... Have now reduced to 3, but may add some more cardboard to reduce a tad further.

Looking forward to having it all back together and running smoothly!

Jim
