New rear tin. The rear price of tin has never really fitted properly and is for a van with carb preheat tubes. Got this bit from heritage and has no pre heat or blower hose holes... Fits fairly well, had to make a small mod for the oil cooler circuit.

(The old one is up for grabs, free to collector or I can bring to an event).

Giving the new one a lick of paint...

Old one... has a small part cut out to accommodate the oil cooler hose.

Finished the rear panels...

With the cards I've found that they are reusable if the holes for the clips are ok, if there is other damage you may as well tape it together.

Having removed half of South Africa from the sills, found they're in reasonable condition, well the metal is still there, I dinotrolled the insides then smoothed them out a bit with filler and sprayed with a can. (In my garage, with fan heater on and doors shut, so couldn't use the spray gun).

Start of buddy seat....

Even after careful measuring, there was still a bit of 'cut it and see' to get this to fit. The pic doesn't show it, but the angle between the floor and back of bulkhead is about 88°. Need the smaller gas bottle as well!

Buddy seat construction finished, and new gas bottles. I'll give it a lick of paint, cushions on order. I'm going to get a table that can be stored down the side of the seat. Any recommendations for a fold up table that would fold up nice and flat?

Velocity stacks (sounds so much cooler than "trumpets"!)

They seem to make a difference and I felt like the van had more torque, it now pulls from lower down and I hit 80 (actually about 70) on the motorway sooner than I expected.

I'll take it back to the carb tuner and get another Dyno run, he said it may benefit from different jets.

Table finished, the varnish could be better - looks ok in the photo but it's quite uneaven. I'm pleased with the edge trim.

Attaching the trim was quite time consuming, for a start it didn't even look like it would bend round the corners, it does though but you've got to take your time. I had to drill holes and screw it in, the best result was from 20 or 25mm screws, if you use smaller ones they don't pull it in hard enough on the corners. I also countersunk with a 6mm drill bit.

Very smart where did u buy the table edging from ? Can you get different colour inserts?
Keep up the hard work so worth it when your out dubbing in the van later.

Thanks, I'm slightly sad that I've nearly finished the interior - never mind I've got a load of mechanical/electrical stuff to do!

The edging was from Camper Interiors and yes there are 8 different colours, the one I got was this: https://camperinteriors.co.uk/products/vw-devon-aluminium-table-edge-trim-insert

Rewire....
Being done by Iain Burns from Air-cooled Auto Elec. It's only now that I find out how many electrical bodges have been done over the last 50 years!

Before and after the dash. If you're at all not confident in your electrics then I highly recommend the services of this man. I recon I could have just about managed to fit a loom, but it's all the other things that he's found and is fixing that I would never have known about. Highly recommended.

Speakers, plugs and other bits...

When I got the van last year the previous owner had built a unit down this side and concealed the 250v consumer unit and battery charger. Since I removed the unit to put in a full width R&R it's been in the way. So I've lengthened the hookup wire and moved it to under the R&R.

Whilst I was at it I put a 250v socket in the facia and some switches that I intend to control lights with. Oh and some holes for speakers.

Damn, just remembered, I was going to paint it before I installed everything!

Highly recommend this gas powered soldering iron. (I always tin wires).

I think that's a smart move for 240v in a vehicle. Auto electric connections are much more robust, but domestic screw type fittings are not designed for the vibration and temperature variations our campers will see - those connections need all the help they can get. It's also worth checking them now and again..... I found I had a few loose screws last time I checked (ahem)
