Horses for courses I guess, I'm not out to win any concours as I doubt I would ever even show it. In fact the thought of people pushing prams etc round the van and smearing windows looking in would stress the hell out of me.. But that's a different story..

At the end of the day it's just a van, which hopefully one day ill get to use...

Also someone mentioned how long I'll be without it, I've actually owned some form of T2 for the last 5years and never driven one, let alone camped on one  apart from other people's. so I think I can wait another few months.

I've decided to bury my head with this one and move onto another that I've got in storage, big plans already but NO PAINT!! on this one

Booked in for May sometime ! no definate date but when im ready i will be dropping it off

My mate has his T25 with a guy in Bristol (we are just outside Liverpool) after a guy in Preston screwed it all up (this also involved trading standards and a simply body resto and paint job is heading for two years now) and its killing him not to be able to see it, they too have gone quiet and I do fear it's happening to they again..

If you want to message me their details I could pop in and see what the situation is?

Thanks for that, I'll ask them the question and get back to you. As its not my van they might not want the boat rocking (not that your going to do that but the garage might not like it)

For me they didn't have much left to finish but its been going on for months now,

You'll probably know them though, another one that's very well known in the vw world but very good at what they do though so I'm told.

Just to clear things up,
The bus wasn't left outside it was put straight into a storage unit, the damage done I believe is down to road salt.. Which stresses the f@ck out of me.. It's also not just the front panel all the door posts etc are bare and for me only shot blasting it now will cure this.
The doors are bare and were taped up and they haven't opened them yet.

Crap situation mate.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the front panel, door posts and doors were bare metal? If so why? If you are going to bare metal, you need hot, T-shirt & shorts weather, flat it, dry it and get paint on asap, done in minutes, not left for weeks. Just being in the atmosphere even during summer with the moisture and oxygen that is inherant, bare mild steel will rust.
Not having a dig, but why did you allow it to be transported in those weather conditions without being adequately covered? You are the boss, the customer, so what you say goes.

And yes, if they haven't touched it in 8 weeks, then unless there have been many phone calls from them to explain, get it out of there and just look for a body shop with a good reputation. I do understand the concept of not being able to keep to deadlines but this appears to be a piss take .

As far as the subject of distance its got more to do with trust surely, we have 2 buses in at the moment, one from Finland and another from Holland , which belongs to stu off here . We have been thinking of installing a webcam so customers can see what goes on all the time not just when they visit. It seems to us like most bodywork decisions are driven by price by the number of enquiries we get each week where things have gone wrong .

Wish I'd have pulled mine out when the alarm bells started ringing in the first few weeks...it just went down hill from there.get out if you're not happy mate...plenty of bodyshops with good reputations.i.m.h.o.

That's a great idea although I would of lost days of my life just checking what's going on :)

I can understand the reluctance to move the van now its there, the hassle involved and also the awkward situation, but I guess you have to consider that if they arent arsed now, how arsed will they be in what they are doing?

My brother wanted some repair work doing on his bug a year or so back, he contacted a substantial 'player' in the scene and chased quotations for several weeks, despite promise after promise a quote never came :? he binned them off and contacted Midland Paintwerks who quoted him, gave him a date, got the work done and photographed every stage ... perfect. :) Why the first place didnt either quote or tell him they didnt want or need the work I have no idea, but I wouldnt consider them again ....

Very sorry to hear all this! Hope you get it sorted! I'm just kiting myself out stuff for spraying as im always disappointed with jobs I have done as im mega anal!

my 2 p worth

the rust is your fault.i bare metaled my bus panel at a time last year and as soon as i had the paint of it got etch primer, within minuets.

the rust would have been present long before the bus was loaded on to the trailer.

the no work for 8 weeks is crap and i know i wouldent wait that long.

im not saying vw specialists dont have thier place but non specialists will be able to turn out work to the same standard.im in the trade and find that some of the bodyshops that work on modern cars actually have higher standards as there used to working on new vehicles and have to turn out perfection every time.

I agree about modern body shops. My van has been with a local guy that does insurance work for Merc BMW and Volvo (saw a lovely Aston in with front end damage). He has not been the fastest, (doing it in slow periods) but again I knew that before he started. I have seen his work throughout and I am happy. He hasn't covered anything up and doesn't cut corners. He has said he will not touch another van though. Best of all he is well priced, although its been 3 years and 5 grand I know its going to be a top job. That said these are South Wales prices how much it would cost in the home counties I don't know.
