Just looked at the code on the side of my carb and it reads as above. Googled it and find lots of comments about it being wrong for a 1600 engine. Seems to run OK except for the tickover being a bit fast when hot. I want to rebuild it because it is leaking fuel but don't want to wast my time if its not good for the engine.

Please advise.

Thanks

Stock carbs for buses 1968 to 1972 are;
30 pict 2
30 pict 3d
34 pic 3
Duel carb:
LH 34 pdsit 2
RH 34 pdsit 3

Im not sure if the H30/31 is intended as a replacement for any of these.

If unsure get yourself a second hand solex 34 pict 3 off ebay there are usually a few and there not that costly. Unless your running a single port engine then it wont fit the manifold without an adapter plate. Stud pitch is different SP to TP.

The H30/31 is a replacement for the 30 and 31 pict series carbs. If the engine in question is a 1600 singleport, it is an acceptable carb (although a proper VW Solex one will be far better quality construction).

34 pict 3 carbs were 1600TP only.

Intake manifold on a single port looks like a single tube where it connects to the cylinder head, twin port manifold is split and connected each side by a rubber boot to the cylinder head section of the manifold.

The small tube is the manifold pre-heater both single and twin port stock manifolds have these.

If its a bit dickie, Just Kampers do an Empi replacment based on the PICT1 unit with the added power jet that i had good results with on my 1600SP, all for a reasonable £110.00
