Hi...

My camper has never had a stereo fitted and so obviously the dash is uncut - i definately want to keep it that way but am

finding it extremely difficult to find anywhere else to put a head unit!!!

A mate of mine's brother used to be into his beatles and said they used to buy a plastic sort of carrier that would then screw up into the underside of the dash... had a look and there is nothing at all to screw up into - the glove box compartment is made of thick half dead card and the rest is all just open...

Anyone got there stereo mounted in some great way that they could share with me,, would be very gratefull..
Thanks, Rowan.

I've just put mine in one of those plastic carriers from halfords.I've put it under the dash under the glovebox as far to the left as it will go.I found there is one hole on the lip of the dash if you feel the metal bit, then with a poker feel through the padded bit to complete the hole.So thats the left front support sorted, put a self tapper through then a spire clip to hold it the other side. Then you will need to line up and drill the right hole, again screw it with a spire clip the other side. You will notice the back is still flopping around. You can do either of two things here, either get a piece of that mecanno like strip of metals with holes in and find someplace to screw it into_Or what I did was on the right rear hole put a zip tie through it and go around the glove box bracket, then the same on the left rear hole support it off the handbrake bracket (goes off at angle but holds it fine) I found this to be very secure in a reasonably good location and will not notice if you take it off again. 2 small holes in the padded bit only which you can't see anyway)

I junked the glovebox liner

I have also put mine in the glovebox. But just sat in there in one of the Halfords plastic carriers flipped upside down. CB is also in there!

Harlequin thats a very smart job! Did you fabricate that yourself?

I built a wooden box for mine in the glove box:

I've remade it since this picture and it fits much better now and right over to the left hand side so I still have a useable bit of glovebox left for other stuff.

Harlequin, I'm liking what you've done :D

You can always mount it behind the passenger seat, cant see it and still can use it easily 8)

I didnt realise that modern steros did not fit into the standard aperature tbh -

Just for an idea - I'm planning to (not done it yet  but will do in the next few weeks) mount it behind the original stereo hole by making brackets that will screw through the speaker holes above it. The original blanking plate will hinge down to get access to it. Harlequins install looks quality though.

mine does

not sure on the dimensions but it fits a stock hole in the dash. I will try and find a link to it

funny ive been looking for a modern stereo that would fit but never found one :D this might be the answer.

ive got it in the standard hole,i put it behind the dash and made some brakets to push it up against the dash the removable front actually fits the hole, then i stuck the suround on to the dash with mirror pads

I'm thinking that I might mount mine vertically next to the drivers seat (walkthrough) like Saab do - seems like as good a place as any and with remote control it should be OK...

;)
