Old pic but 16 " merc clk rims with 205 55 rears and 195 45 fronts, approx 3&1/2" drop using adj. spring plates and cut n turned front beam by t2d
Probably going back to steels when I get some time :?

This is mine in the flesh.

Currently running with an adjustable beam up front set as low as it can go with horseshoes on the back.

Tyres from memory are 175/55/15 Continental Eco 3 on't front and 185/65/15 Michelin Energy ont rear.

However, got a 4" narrowed beam and adjustable spring plates waiting to go on. Just waiting for some late bay 73 on dropped spindles to pop up cheap and i'll be able to get crackin.

Ignore the number plate propped on the Boz bar. Only there for an insurance picture

I've registered here before. But I guess it's been awhile and forgot the username and password and email.

But anyways, here's my bus:
Wagenswest 4" narrowed adjustable beam with drop spindles
Rear 3.25" drop boomerang plates and one notch down in the rear
Wheels are 15x7 all around
Tires are 165/45 front and 195/60 rears
The rear is low as I can go without needing to c-notch

I put a thread in general about this before I remembered this one.

Standard rims, massive tyres, but my first venture into the world of droppage with a one spline drop at the saggy old rear, and adjusters at the front.

This is how it looked before

Welcome along again!

That looks great! Any more pictures or details?

This is a post of what wheels and tyres i'm NOT running on my bay
Today I've been arsing around with wheels. I would like to run something big on the back, a 205 70, but wanted to make sure it would clear before I splashed out. Luckily I have a very friendly tyre place that fitted a used tyre for me to try out. So, jack up the bus, slide the wheel over the studs, and bugger! The offset on my gasburners appears to be completely wrong.

to show what I mean, heres a pic of the stock wheel, and its clearance between it and the spring plate, then the same with the gas burner.

Having previously had one of my 17x7 fusch copies on the back, I thought I'd see if this would still work knowing that it would be tight on the adjustable springplate, but alas not, it fouls big time. If I space it off the drum with a spacer, the studs arent long enough, and the tyre is about the same place as the burner.

So now I have no wheels for my bus! I quickly looked to see if I could get the back of the wheel machine down to change the offset, but to get enough i would completely loose the seating surface for the wheel nuts.

I think I will try and get a stock width tyre on it, a 185, just to see if that will work, but looking at it, I think the tyre wall will still foul on the lip and inner arch

The box is marked up as 'offset 6' which doesnt tie up with MWS current listing which is 'Offset ET20'. I've sent MWS an email, but as I bought them at least 6 years ago for another project, I dont hold out much hope.

Little update, just had a mooch around on the net
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Wheel-Offset-Backspacing-what-it-means-finally-/10000000009860383/g.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
going by whats written there, and using a couple of steel rules, the difference between the front face to the wheel mounting surface and the back face to the wheel mounting surface is 20 mm, so the ET on my burners is 20, as per the current wheels, so what gives, why cant I get a tyre under there??

Thanks you guys

It's a 1971 westfalia with a 1776cc motor, single carb
It had some front end damage so the nose clip was replaced with Bus Boys late bay clip, hence the early and late bay turn signals.
The previous owner had replaced the pop top for a faux-vinyl top, non-retracting, lol.

The wheels are Enkei EK98 which are I assume supposed to BBS RS replicas.
Has some pretty low offset, something like ET 17 offset
Although the lug pattern is 5x112. I had to bore our the lug holes from 12mm to fit 14mm lug bolts.

Planning to run smaller tires in the rear. Still need to get adjustable spring plates and C-notch the frame...and eventually go AIR ride

Got a new phone so had to steal some pics from instagram

Looks like the problem I had. You might need narrower tires like a 195 or 185 tire and once it slips past the fender and lowers down the camber should help with the fitment. Or try deflating the tire a bit to fit it up past the fender and then reinflate.

Yeh, just had another mooch about the net and here, JGE burners appear to have a 42 offset which would help alot, though ssp fusch copies are the same, 5.5x15 et 20, and theres a green bus on this thread running 195 65s. Think thats my next move.

Another Update:
I drove the bus around the block and over some speed bumps with the 195 70 on, and despite the *** paper clearance, there was no rubbing. However, i've decided I dont like the Gas Burners, so i'm going 17x7 Fusche reps on the back and 15 x 5.5 fusche reps on the front. The back is tight still, thanks to the adjustable spring plates, but with a little 'magic' I should get them on. I'll post a pic when its done.

Bus looks killer, just watch clearance on the adjustable springplates with those 7 inch rims, as I found out (see above)

Thought id finally get round to putting some photos up of our bus

Heres how we bought it,

Pretty jacked up at the back

then Lowered it and messed around with The sprint stars on. (Photo courtesy of dave warren) adjustable front beam and round on the spring plates, also wound down on the adjustable spring plates

Then put stock steels on (wound the back down bit more and more on the adjusters. 165/65/14 up front, 185R14C on the rear. (Front rode like a bag of *****) so.... lifted it back up an inch and this is how it sits now.

Photo volksworld took at busfest this year

Soon to have chrome 356 reps on... any pics of buses with 356 wheels?

Got the adjusters for the front beam in the glove box.

Hi Jallis, do you still keep the adjusters in the glove box?
Time to get get your hands dirty and install them now - Winter time is maintenance time :!:

I Installed mine a few weeks ago
It was messy  - Someone here on Earlybay says it takes the definition of messy to a new level... And I have to agree ;)

One outer spline down rear
CSP adjusters fitted in the front, adjusted to the same level as the rear end
"low profile bump stops fitted (universal 10mm urethane bump stops from e-bay)
195/70 15 tires on polished 5 spokes
Late bay spindles and brakes in front, T25 drums in the rear
